286 laptop

Featured Replies

I have been given a fully functioning 286 compaq laptop, it has no battery but otherwise is in pretty good nick, anyone want it to add to a collection?

I know this should be in for sale but i'm not really selling anything!

I have a pile of rubbish outside my house waiting for collection, if you're quick you might just make it... :D

i cant put it in my small fabia, its too heavy!

Tempting, but no thanks - already got a 086 laptop (640 K RAM, 10 M HDD) that I haven't had the heart to trash. Could help you with software, though - how about a copy of WordPerfect 4.2?

BTW I do regret that I sold my Amstrad PCW8256, this outstanding example of British IT engineering, way back in the 80's - a collector's item these days. Anyone else out there remembering them?

Compaq SLT/286 Laptop

Thats not so many years ago, quiet suprising how much things have improved.

A few of those were still in use when I started as a PC engineer - they were an absolute sod to dismantle and put back together again, I always ended up with a few screws left over!

...and you're quite sure that they stemmed from the computer?

Get a big antistatic bag stick it in and leave it for 25-50 years. Then bring it out when antiques roadshow visits near to you.

If you want to get rid of it, you could freecycle it :) There may be some ever sadder people collecting that stuff :P
