Standard Headlight Levelling

Featured Replies

OK maybe a stupid question but does the internal levelling switch change the beam height of the main beams as well as the dipped beams?

I ask beacuse when loaded up coming back from Northern Ireland the other day with the leveller set to 2 the main beams were lighting up the tops of the trees rather than the road ahead, although the dipped beams were fine.

If it operates both then I guess I need to adjust them manually.

Cheers

Ok checked this again and, having looked at the headlight unit I can't see how the main beam position can change as it seems to be a fixed, moulded in, part of the unit with no seperate "moving" section (unless that is the bulb moves).

I also checked in the dark with the main beam on by adjusting the levelling switch and couldn't see any change in height.

If this is the case (can someone else check thiers please) then for an estate (which is most likely to be loaded up) then this appears to be a significant omission and safety issue.

However, if it does turn out to be the case (and is not just my car with a problem) then how do I adjust the main beam height without messing up the dipped beam height.

Cheers

Mark

It does, so I suppose your only option is to have your units re-aligned.

Handbook only refers to 'low beam'. It says;-

"Turn the control dial => fig.45 until you have adjusted the low beam so that oncoming traffic is not dazzled."

AFAIK main beam is fixed.
