Reverse light not working

Featured Replies

Hi there,

the reverse lights of my Octavia are not working. So far I've checked that

- bulbs are ok, replaced with new ones just in case

- fuse is ok, there is voltage present in the fuse socket

So I expect the reverse light switch or related wiring to be broken. Where is the switch located, at gearbox or stick side? Any other ideas what to look for?

The reverse light switch is located on the gearbox on the octy`s

With the bonnet up its to the front of the car and iirc will have the only electrical wire that goes to that side of the box

Very easy and cheap to change just a matter of unbolting the old and replacing it with the new one

If the wires not connected that's your problem just plug it back in ive had this happen with mine, also worth having a look

at the relevant fuse which i believe is F7 which also operates the parking sensors

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll have a look at it tomorrow in the daylight.

Try pushing the gear lever sideways. Not a troll; a serious suggestion, since I had the same problem with one car, and the problem was that the switch was out of alignment, but correcting it meant stripping the box, so since we only actually needed reversing lights on odd occasions we just lived with it.

I had this on my golf recently and the cause was most bizarre. I bought the car with "dealer fit" parking sensors. The fitter ended up leaving an electrical connector in the rubber gaiter by the boot hinge and over time the connector wore through the reversing light cable.

Considering the Octavia reversing lights are not in the tailgate I doubt this is an issue but it may be worth checking the wires for breaks.

might be worth shorting out the switch switch to ensure the lights do come on... and then you have found the course of the problem. If the lights don't come on, you know the switch is probably ok, and that it is either wiring or bulb holder related.... I guess you should short the switch adn then turn the ignition on and check the reversing lights to see if they are on or not....

Sorry for bumping an old post but i had the same problem, found lots of other people with the same issue but no solution. My pd130 octavia mk1 had a chaffed wire on top of the starter motor which caused the reverse lights to stop working. Chopped out the bad wire and soldered in a new piece and working again. Hope this helps those that are still looking for help.
