Stream MP3 Dropping Sound on One Speaker?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

As noted above the Stram MP3 uit on our Octy has decided to drop its output to the drivers door speakers. Initially the whole drivers side went but then the rears came back.

Is this likely to be a similar problem to the "pop and drop" issues others have had that seem to have been resolved by a software upgrade or could it be the Parrot bluetooth I have fitted (The latter needs some attention anyway as it seems the CD Changer connection hasn't been swapped over so the changer doesn't work - it's already on my list of to-do's!)

I assume this is not just a wiring/connection problem? Do you only lose that speaker when playing MP3s?

Initally it occurred when trying to play an original CD and occurs on everything now, including radio etc. It could be a conection problem which I'm intending to look at but appeared to happen directly after changing a CD in the headunit.

My other thought (having just thought about the connection issue) is where do screws finish up if they get dropped inside the headunit? The dealer had it back to investigate the CD changer not working (apparently not plugged back in when the parrot was fitted) because when I went to talk to them about it in the workshop they said one of the 4 screws holding it in place was missing and yet I know that all 4 were in place before it went in as I checked myself. If a screw has dropped inside could it be shorting a connection out somewhere and could this have coincided with the CD loading mechanism moving?

Yes, its possible. it is quiet difficult to get the screw inside though. You could remove the HU and turn it facedown and shake gently, if its inside it will rattle like a trooper and should with carefull juggling be navigated to the where the apperture for the screws is and out again.

If it has shorted the output though, chances are the output transistor could have blown meaning that even if you get the screw out, the sound will still be dead and the only solution would be a new HU.

All that being said, it could just be the quadlock connection is loose.

Thanks guys... I'll have a look at removing the headunit and giving it a gentle shake when I check the connections (should be able to find the CD connector and re-fit that at the same time).

After that it's another call to the dealer I guess.

When I recently had my vRS serviced, the main dealer carried out two recalls under warranty - the first being a software update and the second being speaker rewiring.

Im not sure what that actually entailed but it seems that Skoda are aware of issues with the speakers in Mk2 Octavias and if this is what is causing your problem should repair it gratis.

Thanks for that I'll have a word with the dealer I bought it off (not the one who has looked at the Changer I hasten to add) and see whether these were done and what the crack is.
