Rear Brake Upgrade

Featured Replies

I've just had my car serviced and have been told that the rear discs/pads need changing. Is it worth getting a set of VRS rear calipers while I'm at it? I know that a high percentage of braking is done on the front brakes but would uprating the rears ease the load on the fronts. I have allready upgrade the fronts to 312mm.

I've seen a vrs in a scrappy and was thinking about purchasing the front calipers etc togo green and thought while I'm at it I might as well get the rears and upgrade at the same time.. Any thoughts? if I do upgrade the rears what do I need to make sure I get from the VRS?

we both should have kept our vrss mate:)

i love the x5 but she loves petrol.

Are you starting to miss your vrs?? I don't miss mine so much now, now I've started modding this one I can see the potential.. Decent power and 44+mpg.

Have you got a soundtrack of your x5 yet??

keep em standard, unless you can change the bias to the rear more i doubt it'd be worth the additional investment.

I'm not sure what the standard bias is, but these cars all have 4-channel ABS, so a rear end upgrade will do something. OTOH about 90% of the effort in the limiting condition goes to the front, so a 10% uprate in the effort the rears can deliver only increases total retarding power by 1%.

I guess it's not worth it then unless I do it for the cosmetic appeal ready for the 18" alloys

not even then. save your money, replace like for like, and with the money you save buy some wheel cleaner and tyre dresser for your new alloys, much better use of your money!
