Just a Quick Question...

What are the differences between a plug 'n' play box and a re-map?

cheers

a plug n play box will generally only add extra fuel

whereas a re-map will also alter the turbo boost as well as the fueling

hence you will get more power with a re-map

of course there are 2 types of re-map , generic and custom

the generic is a standard uprated map which will run on say all the PD engines but isn't tailored to the specific engine of the vehicle

the custom map is just that, custom, I.E. it is tailored to the engine by doing various rolling road runs and road tests to get the best fueling and boost settings for power and torque

interesting...

mind you - i think my 1.4 mpi might need a little more than a remap to improve it's heartbeat (we're talking Greengrass level here)

Cheers, ok so.....in your experience, which is the best type?

Custom remap. Tailored to the car and your requirements. A good mapper will also make sure nothing is getting over-stretched with the extra performance. A staged boost rise and tapered top-end will protect the engine, clutch and turbo. More power may be available, but at the expense of reliability.
