Octy vRS Colour Dilemma!

Featured Replies

I ordered my mk II Octy vRS diesel last weekend and am due to pick it up next week sometime.

Originally I was torn (and still am TBH!) between the Blue and the Silver but when it came to ordering I went for the silver option because I got a fairly good deal on the extras. The dealer did find a blue one but it didn't have all the options I wanted but the silver one did and more besides so I went with that one (it helped that they had both a blue and silver one in the forecourt!)

The reason I chose one from stock is that Skoda's offer of free equipment upgrades and 3 years free servicing on the solutions plan expires at the end of September so it has to be delivered by then.

I'm due to go into the dealer this afternoon to sign the paperwork etc but I've already paid my £250 deposit.

My question is, what can I expect the dealer to do or say if I told them I'd changed my mind on the colour? Will it affect my deposit or could they realistically get another one in with a different colour? What about the extras situation etc?

I think my problem is that I give in too easily to the general concensus that race blue is the only colour to get this car in!

The free equipment offer applies to any car ordered before the end of September. Doesn't matter when it's delivered.

(edit) Just realised you were talking about the solutions offer of freebies + servicing. That may well apply based upon delivery date.

I disagree! :) Silver looks great, and I see a lot less of them on the roads. I think it blends into the background

a bit more, but I guess it depends how much attention you want to attract :D

LOL. The problem is that the majority of people seem to perve over the race blue so much, they don't give the other colours a look in!

As you may have already gathered, I don't have a strong enough personality to say 'hey, I'm different' and instead let myself be brainwashed into 'the only colour the Octy vRS looks good in is race blue' talk. So now I'm at a crossroads where I don't know what to do!

My instinct and first thoughts are to stick with the car I've ordered but until I sign on the dotted line I've got that choice!

I love the look of the silver one - it was what I was going to go for had I not stuck with the Furby. Plus silver is brilliant for not looking dirty!

It's funny how when you're buying a car you get into such headaches about options, isn't it?! I nearly lost sleep over whether to go for the diesel or petrol vRS, after test driving both :)

...I had to remind myself that this probably wouldn't be the last car I ever buy, and that I could always have the "other option" next time :o

You're absolutely right. We often forget that a car usually lasts us for between 3 and 5 years - hardly a lifetime is it?

So is it settled then? Stick with the silver?

Gotta say, I have a silver 1.6 FSI and I love the colour, BUT, I think the VRS looks great in the blue (see a lot of them round Peterborough) but haven't seen a VRS in silver in the flesh so to speak.

Well this is the last post I'll make before signing my life away! Going to go for the silver as orginally ordered. Thanks for the comments guys, really appreciate it.

Scott - would you have a chance to read the PM I sent before you go?!?! Or perhaps later tonight? All the best...

Good choice. welcome to the silver fold. :D

Get the blue one, it really suits the vrs. Silver ones look a bit bland imho. But whichever you get good luck with it and good choice of car

From the moment I saw it in the brochure it could only be Race Blue for me.

But that's MY car. Get what YOU want. If you liked silver at first then that is probably the colour for you. If you really liked them both then you've nothing to loose either way.

Blue is far more common here. I've seen a couple of silver VRSs and 1 black but all the rest have been blue.

Cheers mate. Would've gone for the blue one if it had the options I wanted but the silver one was the only car the dealer could find with them on.

The one MUST have option for me was the Xenon headlights and sod's law, the blue car was the only one that didn't have them! I wanted cruise control, xenon headlights and rear parking sensors and there were 3 cars that the dealer found that might have been of interest:

Black - xenon headlights but no cruise control or parking sensors (dealer offered to retro-fit them but they aren't the same as being factory fitted)

Blue - parking sensors and cruise control but no xenon headlights

Silver - xenon headlights, cruise control, parking sensors, sunroof, maxidot, auto dimming rear view mirror (incl. rain sensors & light assist)

Obviously all 3 came with the free Skoda upgrades i.e. 17" - 18" wheels & dual-zone climate control with jumbo box & mp3 connection.

So in the end I thought 'it's a 50/50 split on colour so get the one with the most extras on!'

Spec on the silver is better and, having seen a silver VRs at the dealers I think it looked well. The blue looks good too but I think you will regret missing out on the spec items more than the colour so I'd personally go for the silver.

My thoughts exactly. I thought I'd rather have the spec than the colour any day (only 15 mins now till I have to set off to the dealer!)

With hindsight I wish I had have bought a blue one, but I was in a similar situation to yourself. My dealer couldn't get hold of a blue one with the options I wanted without having to make it an order so I bought the silver car with the options I wanted that was in his showroom.

It does look bland in silver, but once clean it does look very smart and it adds to the 'stealth' image.

When I first saw the race blue I didn't like it and would have gone for red, my last few cars have been silver so wanted a change.

But the blue grew on me so much so I now own one. As happy accident the blue matches the decals on my caravan perfectly as a guy pointed out to me on a local Caravan Club site last weekend!

Having done silver and black to death I am happy to have something a bit different.

Similar deal with me actually. last car was black, so time for a change. Otherwise I would have been looking at black octavias. (and so fed up of trying to keep a black car looking clean :))

Well you'll be pleased to know (some of you at least!) that I went and ordered the silver one and shall be picking it up next Wednesday!! (Never had a silver car before so this was another factor in my ever growing list)

Thanks for all the input peeps, appreciate your points of view.

I'm having a similar dilemma to Tim (Scottpcs).

I have an Octy vRS on order and I have changed the colour twice already. I started at Race Blue then changed to Silver but I'm back to Race Blue ... for now.

The trouble is, there are quite simply too many silver cars on the road ... except vRS's 'cos they're almost all Race Blue with the odd black thrown in for good measure.

IMHO the black looks best - until you've had it out of the garage for any more than 5 seconds because by then it will be filthy so I've managed to rule it out. As for red and banana - no thanks.

Race Blue looks really good and this is what I ordered until the buggers at Specialist Cars Aberdeen got a Silver one in stock. I have to say, despite imagining it would be bland, I thought it looked real good too.

Either way, I'm going to have to be a sheep and follow one crowd or other. Either the "I've got a blue vRS" crowd or the "I've got a silver car like everyone else" crowd and I just can't make up my mind.

My Dealer, Delmore Skoda in Inverness, has been ace. Michael expects a call every other day with me changing from one colour to the other.

I guess the final decision will be made the day I call him and he says ... too late, the order can't be changed and I guess I'll be happy with whatever colour the dice lands on.

As long as it's blue, no silver, no blue ...........

Life is just so complicated aint it??

I decided on silver for three main reasons:

1. I've never had a silver car before (had 2 blue ones)

2. I've never seen another Octy mk II vRS in silver on the road

3. Every man and his dog seems to own a race blue Octy mk II vRS

For me I had to look at other factors as I was split 50/50 between the silver and the blue. I did think that the blue may date quicker than the other colours (except yellow which was never IN date!) but then that's just me.

A silver Octy vRS looks classy and smart in my opinion. It doesn't look 'bland' as one or two people have said it does. Seeing it in the flesh made my mind up about the colour.

Having a silver car may not be unique in itself but you'll certainly become part of a unique group if you have a silver Octy vRS!

Glad you're settled Tim.

I only wish I had factors such as options to sway me one way or t'other.

Heads or tails I guess.

Hope you enjoy yours when it comes.
