Octavia vRS Petrol or Diesel?

Featured Replies

Hiya gents/ladies,

Come across your board in the search for knowledge... My trusty Golf TDi is getting tired and I'm expecting it to cost me in the near future. I've liked the vRS styling ever since seeing the local plod mincing about in them, I want one. Which one though?

Questions to you:

Petrol: Do they drink fuel all the time or just when you want them to?

Petrol: Re-mapping, has this improved your ride much? Has it increased fuel consumption (I realise different maps can change things).

Diesel: Less fun than the Petrol?

Diesel: Any problems with high milage?

Diesel: Remapping, added more mpg? More fun to drive?

Cheers for any help, I'm not being lazy I am trying check as much as I can but good to get input from people who drive the cars day in and out! Apologies for any incorrect terminology, it can only improve.

Mk1 or Mk2, this is the Mk1 forum, dunno if there was a derv version of that.

Regardless, both are mappable :)

I'd have a test drive personally, as the petrol Mk2 seems to be rated highly on the torque side of things too and are smooth to drive :)

Yeah, I've not seen a Mk1 TDi anywhere, reason for this forum is cost, older likely to be cheaper.

Guess I'll have a snoop in the Mk2 forum too.

The petrol only drinks when you want it to.

I get up to 40 on the motorway at 70/75 average, and about 30 on the commute to work (A roads and a bit of stop/start town driving).

A combination of the above, and booting it once in a while, and i usually see high 20's, which is pretty good for an estate car that gets to 60 in under 8 secs lol.

I'm investigating remapping mine at the moment.. but not sure how it will affect the mpg figures above. I expect it will remain just as economic on the gentle runs!

Just to let you know there is only petrol in Mk1 guise of the vRS Octavia.

Diesel comes with Mk2.

Cheers so far gents...

So I'm looking for a 1.8 vRS. Approx £5k to spend and plenty of time to look and see. Pitfalls? Had a quick search through the site and got some heads up, what sort of mileage and condition should I expect?

From Autotrader I've seen £5k can get a 2002/3 70k+ miles. Shall have to see what I can find! Bargains to be found?!

I have just bought a 54 vrs with 93k and full history for 4.5K, if this helps(ebay)

Really nice car, a guy at work was a Skoda tech, he says excellent under rated cars, cant go wrong with them.

Cheers
