Domain name assistance required

Featured Replies

I have a substantial ammount of webspace and I'd like to use part of under a new domain name. My brother purchased www.britannia2668.co.uk for my Dad a couple of years ago and it simply diverts people towards his geocities webspace - the users never get to see the geocities webspace address as the www.britannia2668.co.uk is always shown in the address bar.

At the time he bought it from lycos but they dont offer a non-hosted service anymore (well, they dont seem to)

So what is this type of service called? I understand that "URL forwarding" is where a user is taken to a host but in my experience the URL shown in the addres sbar then becomes that of the host, not what the user entered.

Its difficult to search the web for something like this when you dont know the technical name for it

Or is there something in the HTML that will set the address bar contents?

If this was possible then I could use a simple URL forwarding service and set the address bar to say whatever I want.

Option 3 here ?

Thanks!

it seems that "framed or cloaked web redirection" is just what I'm looking for.

Now all I need to do is find someone that can do it at a sensible price.

123-reg.co.uk have very reasonable rates.

If you use framed forwarding you will find your domain is not easily indexed by search engines, but that might not be a problem for you anyway...

Freeparking are good.

I have only ever purchased from them & then 'parked' the domain with them but you can also transfer domains to them. Cost is a set-up fee of £9.99 & I think it's £4.99/yr to keep a .co.uk domain registered.

Goochie.net is available. £8.88 a year. Your email addy could be phil-at-goochie.net!

I often wonder why so few people have their own domain.
