Bad idle

Featured Replies

I have another thread about a bad idle (Grimsby, Barkers) which I update on a weekly basis. My wife's vrs SE has been in the garage for many weeks. I thought I would mention in this new thread (to make it more noticeable) that more cars are coming down with the affliction. Another four cars have started with the fault and are now on the Skoda network showing the same problem. Skoda are thinking of having one or two back to their headquarters for testing and to try and find out what is going wrong.

Oh Dear - so this seems to be SE specific then ?

I asked the technician whether it was just the SE and he did not know. When I speak to Customer Relations at Skoda next (soon) I will find out. The implication was that they were newish cars and up to last week there were just two cars - mine and another SE in Scotland which was sold back (rejected) to the dealer AFAIK

I had a bad idle on my fabia vrs since i got it. Was playing around under the bonnect last week whilst carrying out my 40k service.

I Pulled the small vac pipe off the top of the egr and blocked it up with a bolt. Instant result....... No shaking at idle but CEL light on on dash. Going to get rid of the crappy egr system with one of allards egr bypass pipes and see if that has an effect ;)

Try vagcomming down the EGR cycle - it improved the idle on my car which wasnt bad to begin with....

See Stu's fabia site for detailed info...

Thanks for the suggestions, which I will pass on.

Customer Services don't know if the other cars are SE's as their owners haven't contacted CS yet. CS are also going to push for my car to go back to base for their technicians to try and fix it. My worry is they wont be able to and put it down to a 'characteristic'.

I have spoken with the dealer principal about rejecting the car and he is getting back to me tomorrow. My wife has liked the vrs cars in the past (we've had three). She wants a sporty hatchback diesel of the Fabia's size and choice seems very limited with other brands.

The BLT engine is known for it's high EGR settings so it's worth mentioning this. The 9mm gasket is the official fix for the stutter so it may be related and perhaps worth implementing?

It's a shame as the SE is a lovely car...shame about the engine. ASZ conversion anyone? :D

Chrispy, thanks but they've tried the gasket modification with no luck and said they will be returning it back to it's original so no problems with future MOTs.
