take a stab - felicia axle problem - mot tomorrow!

Featured Replies

well howdy.

theres plenty of skoda people - or even not skoda people - here who may have an insight. or use it as a betting opportunity if you want!

i got this felicia a while back on the grounds it wouldn't pass an mot. it was faled three times on a rear axle related/area problem, but the last owner reckons the mechanic didnt ever change it as it was always the same thing!

now i've changed the wheels and tyres to good ones off a favorit (which looks better too) and it drives superbly - absolutely no crabbing, solid smooth braking... bounces right at the back... anyone care to hazzard a guess as theres no typical fault i know of!

also like to say i got the test for 8.25am tomorrow, rang at 1pm today, in a country which has typical 2-3 month waiting lists for mot bookings (yes, really) without even asking or ringing for a cancellation. result and a half!

were you based?????

i dont know of any common problems with the rear beam. might be the bushes.

northern ireland, the land of law-trialling ;) like "should we have half a dozen mot stations and no authorised garages?" "yes, of course, that sounds superb. lets make those troublesome irish pay" etc...

bushes was my thought too :)

leaky shocks? bushes? ummmmm, dont know without more details- but as pinky said, there are not really any common problems associated with the rear suspension and chassis of a felicia. only other thing it might be is badly rusted spring cups?

Well, this an odd one indeed. You have checked that the rear wheels an tyres that came off were straight? No, I'm not joking, but that is the only thing I can think of that changing the wheels all round would cure.

Maybe play in the wheel bearings?

There really isn't much in that area that could cause an MOT fail tbh!

haha! you are all wrong (well, so was i!)

it was a brake imbalance and a rusty pipe. how these things weren't fixed by the last owners mechanic is beyond me. i drove the car back and straight to a mates house, and he did it after work (full time dealer mechanic) and drove it home tonight after helping him bleed the brakes. new copper and welded the exhaust.

ridiculous this car should have stayed on the road. nevermind, i can make a 2000% profit now :)

Er, you said that new wheels and tyres had fixed it? I can see a failed "open" line limiter" giving those effects, but not how changing the wheels and tyres would improve matters.

apologies. i re-read my post and its a touch misleading. the previous tyres were perished which is what became 'good'. the driving dynamics have remained identical. :)
