What does my car need

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I've read through this part of the forum to try and clue up on wht I would need to just look at what my car is doing using the VAG-Com software. I want to have a taster as such rather then spending a shed load on the full version so was considering buying a cheap cable off ebay and downloading the basic vag-com software. If I can get on ok with it then I'll probably buy the full version.

Question is will one of these cables work on both my 2004 Octy Vrs and also Carolyns 2004 Superb 1.9tdi.

I'm afraid I'm struggling a bit to understand whether our cars have the canbus system or not. Seems a bit of a minefield to me.

Am I right in thinking this is a good way to get a flavour of the system and how it works??

Thanks for any advice on this.

Cheers

mine came from that guy too - only gripe is that it's provided with usb drivers that require you to connect to windows update to download the latest drivers and WON'T work if you don't connect.

Once installed it works very well

Cheers guys,

Bought one from the Alpha bid guy. Hopefully it will be ok.

I used the driver from here and it worked well.

Virtual COM Port Drivers

PM me if you have trouble downloading it and ill email them to you.

At the risk of sounding stupid, which software at the Ross-Tech site do I need to download for my 04 octy mk1 vrs? I'm after the free shareware version but got confused by the various options! A direct link to the correct file would be much appreciated.

Well cable is here and I've downloaded the software etc.

I've given it a quick try and have got it to check the 01 engine control unit.

However I wanted to check the height setting on my xenons but it comes up with an error message "cannot connect to control module". Is this because I am on the shareware, is it the cable or am I doing something wrong??

Would I be better doing the search for modules first to see what it can connect too??

Cheers for any advice guys.
