remap - torque

Featured Replies

i want to get my engine remapped, my fabia vrs is totally standard at the moment.

i am in the south west area (swindon) and was wondering what comanies regional or national offer remaps with large torque improvements.

i was also considering changing the air intake, worth doing before or after remap? what intake system works best?

If you are want a large torque increase then you are going to have to budget for a new clutch as well. If you are going to make any other performance mods, you need to do it before the remap - which should ideally be a custom one.

hmmmm, not keen on upgrading any thing else as i am still an apprentice and therefore earn about the same as a loyal mcjobber!

i have seen several similar remap packages that seem to differ slightly in offered increase and wondered which package performs best or if its a matter of preference

Better off going for a more mild remap. Say to around 170bhp, keeping torque fairly limited. You've a few choices. Allard in Gloucester might be your nearest?

I guess if you want to go cheap and reliable, your best bet would be Angel Tuning - they are £300 (don't think any 'known' remappers are cheaper) and they travel. Are the people who I will be using once I've got the money.

angel is a company i looked at and £300 sounds pretty good!

when companies quote increased output are they talking from flywheel or wheels?

and same question applies to standard figures too?

I would certainly stick to a mild map if you don't want to be buying a clutch.

I had mine done by Angel and am delighted with it. Although it's not a custom remap he says the map he used on mine has been fine tuned on dozens of vRS's and equivalent. He says it gives about 178bhp (OK so my profile at the side exaggerates a bit LOL!) and just shy of 300lb torque. I promise you, that will be PLENTY for you! Search 'Angel tuning' on here and you'll find a few on here who have used them and unless I'm mistaken they all seem to be pleased with them.

Hope this helps.

Derek

Give Celtic Tuning a go, they did mine and my mates and they are both superb, they too come to your house/work and if your not happy with it they will restore it to standard and your money back! Give their website a look Celtic Tuning - Performance Remap Specialists

i got quotes from angel and celtic offering pretty much the same package although i think celtic claimed an extra 10 bhp.

angel: £300

Celtic: £360

i have seen both companies recommended on various threads and am pretty sure i will be chossing between these two.

do any of them offer a discount if we mention this site?

As an alternative option you could consider Red Dot Racing in Watford, although I don't think they are mobile. They do an ebay special for £199 SKODA FABIA VRS OCTAVIA REMAP CHIP MORE BHP & TORQUE - eBay Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 04-Oct-07 18:43:57 BST). I was originally going to use them but after speaking to Nige at Angel, I decided to use them instead, purely because Angel were mobile, and what he said about 'screming the tits off the car for a custom remap (my car only had 350 miles on it when I had it done).

In the course of my enquiries Nige at Angel actually recommended Auggie (I think his name is Augusto) ar RDR. Here's an extract from an email from Angel, I was asking about the difference between custom and generic remaps:

To get the most out of a car you put it on a rolling road, scream the tits off it and whack as much power through it to get the highest figures.

To get the best combination of power and longevity you do the mapping then test it on the road for thousands of miles triming it here, adding there until you get the best balance. This costs more and takes more time, however the mapping then forms a base for what you do to future cars. This is how we do mapping these days - so we know that the map we put onto a customer car will not cause any drivetrain problems, economy or any other detrimental affects.

Please do stick with Auggie, especialy for that price! Just tell him that you spoke to me and we backed him up as being a good guy and just tell him to keep the torque below 300lb ft - you dont need to say owt else.

Cheers

Nige

I hope this helps you to make your mind up!

Derek.
