Converting SPi to MPi

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what bits are needed to convert a Favorit GLXie (SPI) to MPi?

I'm guessing an inlet manifold from an SPI + inlet manifold gasket and all the bits on the top of the inlet manifold. Would also need the appropriate ECU (plus the wiring loom to connect to all the bits) and I do not know if you would require any extra sensors anywhere, and whether there are appropriate places to fix these. Probably with the prices of Felicia's the easiest way to convert it to Mpi is to buy a felicia with MPI, and get rid of the favorit if you value the Mpi over Spi.

iirc the manifold from the mpi and spi dont interchange.... so you would need the whole engine... plus ecu, and engine loom.... also you would need the mpi in-tank fuel pump

...It would be far easier to convert it to carb then and use a webber?

:nol2: you would still need the ecu though to run the ignition system

...Yep, I know, was going to do the same thing on my Rapid RIC, convert carb and leave ecu alone to still use electronic ignition.

Next time im in the scrappers il see if i can find a felicia MPI, the engine shouldnt be too hard to swap over you think?

easy job... make sure you get the fuel pump too

...Are the SPi pumps different to the MPi Tom? They will both be bosch types surely?

Im thinking of buying the MPi engine and storing it in my garage while I strip it down and fit a hotter cam, uprated valve spings, 4-1 manifold etc and just making sure its built properly before its fitted.

yeah they run at different base presures..

the spi pump runs at 1.2bars, the mpi pump 2.5 bars..

...Right, Ive found an MPi engine on a P reg Felicia, done 67k, It looks like its going to be a piece of P**s to remove, and when I wire it up to the favorit it looks like all the wiring is in the top passenger side corner, just a few plugs so am I right in thinking the MPi stuff will just plug in there and I wont have to fettle with anything on the other side eg the dash?

yeah, you are right. up on the the passenger side there is two flat rectanguler connectors which is the wiring for the engine mangement system only, there is also another loom on the other side which has a few functions (mainly lighting) and the alternator warning light wiring, plus the reverse light switch
