Fab VRS 'Crashy' suspension

Featured Replies

Does anyone else out there find the Fab VRS suspension too stiff? I'm finding it really 'crashy' over the crap country road surfaces near my house. The car just doesn't seem to ride the road imperfections just crashes over them.

Is there likely to be something wrong with my suspension, or is this normal?

 Help before I need a new spine and fillings!

have you checked your tyre pressures?

it is sport suspension on the vrs

I've checked tyre pressures against those stated on the various threads and they're fine ( 34psi front 32psi back).

Many years ago I used to have Clio Williams and that wasn't as stiff as the Fabia, maybe I'm just getting old then...

I found it that way at first - coming from a car with 60 profile tyres and normal suspension. Bothers me far less now - got used to it I suppose.

I think it's crashy because the dampers are poorly matched to the springs which means things can get quite jarring and uncomfortable. I found the same on the Mk1 Octy vRS, and I've read it is a problem on the Mk2 Octy vRS.

Your only option really (unless you fancy running smaller wheels with bigger sidewall tyres!) is to uprate the suspension with something better, eg Eibach dampers or Koni FSDs.

That sounds a nasty cough, you should get it seen to! You haven't got a blue tongue as well have you?

(thanks for the link)

Koni FSDs - better than Eibachs if you want smooth ride ;)

(I have had both, final combo was Eibach springs, Koni FSDampers)

Do you have to tell the insurance about such suspension mods? Perhaps they'll give a reduction for making the car safer?? (oh look a flying pig)

Drop your pressures to 30 front 28 rear and you will notice an improvement in ride comfort with no adverse effects on wear.

Thanks I'll give it a go.

Pretty sure you have to - and they'll want more from you, usually.

Where's the flying pig - I'm hungry ? :D

It indeed does have a crashy ride. I too blame the dampers.

I've had eibach dampers and it doesnt help. Infact I wouldnt say their was much difference between the too.

Only option try koni fsd or some bilstien dampers with stock springs. Or try some coilovers like KW or bilstein.

Note. Most aftermarket stuff hasnt been designed for the vRS just the normal range.

Yep it qualifies as a modification so you'd have to declare it :)

Good luck with the tyre pressures - mine rides significantly worse when they are down a bit.

I'm going for FSD's - booked in for fitting end of next week.

:iagree:

I've gone through the same process and totally agree - Eibach/FSD is the best combination. Enough said :)

Enough said :)

Yes, sir, sorry, sir

That's OK, just don't do it again :P

FSDs with standard springs may also be an option, if the OP doesn't want the ride height any lower. They're designed to work with OEM springs.

Steve

I find my Fabia VRS Suspension way too soft. lol and im running Eibach springs but I am only 25 so will probably feel stiffer with age.

Too soft with Eibachs on and standard dampers? You must liver near some mighty smooth roads, that's all I can say! Does your local council spend all its budget on highway resurfacing? :)

Oh, and I'm the same age as you are

Steve

Same age here too.

Perhaps we need to live right next to the autobahn too then? Is that where we're going wrong?

;)
