Featured Replies

scraped the edge of my wing mirror, peeved! (yes he is says best mate!)

It's a limited edition, any idea the cost for a respray or repair, etc?

cheers

Touch it up if it's not too bad.

You might only go and scrape it again next week or so.

I've scraped ours several times - garage too tight.

it's quite bad, about 2 inches across, right down to the plastic, on the tip of the wing mirror

My girlfreind had her mirror hit (on her black fabia vrs) the other day and smashed her mirror, glass broke and cracked her cover. She went to skoda for a quote and they said £165 for it to be fixed:eek:

She didnt bother gona get a quote from somewere else as i thought that was abit steep for a wing mirror:confused:

Thank yourself lucky she doesn't own an A4.

A colour coded replacement for an 03 plate A4 TDI is the wrong side of £400 fitted.

New door mirror about £75, painting at a bodyshop about £50, fitting about 0.5 to 0.75 of an hour, all plus VAT. That's your £165.

Alternatively remove it, strip the cover off (or carefully mask it) and aerosol paint it - cost you about £10and some time.

You can get a pair of chrome S3 mirrors for less than that:D

£400 for one mirror ridiculous, your not talking from experience are you:confused:

Sounds right to me  - or friendly backstreet repairer if you don't feel confident.

As a by the bye

Peugeot 307 door mirror £185, parts alone - and you'll need more of them cos they can't be flipped back - or move forward that bit as the Fabby's can (saved me a few times backing the car in).

I had to get one for a mate and thats what Audi charges. His is currently held together with cable ties.

My thoughts exactly - wait until you are going to get rid of it and do all the little scrapes at the same time - cheaper that way!:)

My case on Black magic vrs is cracked and i was quoted £60 for shell already coloured...Feel i need to double check that now!

Based on experience an independant body shop would do your mirror for about £40. Getting all your scratches done at the same time with the same paint makes perfect sense though.

Ah well, at least at that price you get mirrors protected from over heating (but a bit pricey) I had already wasted my Passat B5 mirrors BEFORE I read about this overheating problem - silly VAG intended you to know exactly when you needed to use the mirror heaters - if they were accidentally switched for too long they became U/S! I will not do that again!

Just been down to my local VW dealer, thought i'd chance it due to the fact the fabia is based on the polo. and altho none of the repair people were about i asked the dealer to have a look and he said possibly £30-40. I thought that was quite good, altho i'll have to confirm with one of the repair guys as he didn't seem very sure.

Make sure of cost - and don't forget the dreaded VAT :thumbdwn:

I got a replacement black magic cover from the dealer for £70 painted after cracking mine on a gate!

Feckin expensive..

Sounds like dodgy driving to me. Surely, if your scraping your mirrors when pulling into the garage.... you can't open any doors wide enough to get out?

Do it yourself, just some Halfords paint

1) Pop the wing mirror cap off

2) Mask up the mirror cap

3) Sand down damaged area (May have to use some filler to fill in the plastic if it has scratched that, sand filler down so it sits flush)

Then use this guide for painting I found on UK-MKIVS

PREP

1) really clean the item

2) use four types of sand paper... 120 - 400 - 800 - 1200 grit.. ensuring you use a wet process.

3) clean it again - white spirit etc

4) apply a layer of primer (wait 10)

5) using 1200 wet sand it down again - if it exposes the plastic its fine

6) apply a layer of primer (wait 15)

7) using 1200 wet sand it down again - again if it exposes the plastic its fine

8) apply a layer of primer (wait 20)

9) using 1200 wet sand it down again - if it exposes the plastic its fine

10) apply a thin layer of primer (wait 10)

PAINTING

1) spray thin layers (10 mins wait)

2) another layer (15 mins wait)

3) another layer (20 mins wait)

4) coat of lacquer (15 mins)

5) coat of lacquer (15 mins)

6) bake it at 60 degree C for an hour

You been Snoopying again, Oh Argumentative One :P

1" clearance either side - and to be able to get out the car I have to put the car in at an angle, which with a fence panel 6" to the right and the house wall 6" to the left, ain't easy.

I'll put it this way - the wife has never put any of our cars in the garage.

Have to get so far in and then fold in RHS and swing car rear to left. Even more fun when mirrors wet and vision distorted because of water.

I'll let you try sometime
