Skoda Roomster Scout: As cool as 'Agadoo' - Independent Online Edition > Road Tests

An interesting opinion, although it's not a review more his personal musings on his observations.

He has tried to write in the style of JC and just made it sound very caustic.

I wasn't aware it was marketed as an off-roader in any way. It doesn't even look like one. As for the ear hair, I'd like to see anyone prove this is physically possible. I am 29 and bought a Scout because I liked the form of the overall package. It was my opinion that it looks quite nice. I can see why the car was put into production and I know what is appealing about it.

He also has his info wrong;

The RRP is stated as £14,420 when it's acutally £14,070. The comparison with the Renault kangoo is hilarious as to get a similar specced Kangoo (As close as you can get with a massive 84 bhp, 14" weels and a crap stereo) would cost £15145.

The increased ride height which is minimal anyway doesn't have a massive effect on the body roll. The Scout a is a massive 10kg heavier than the 3 which considering it comes as standard with ESP (Which the 3 doesn't) and roofbars means the plastic bumpers don't add a lot at all.

Obviously I am biased but based on his review I wouldn't use this guys work to wipe my a55 with, this is a truely awful piece of work and I am surprised the Indepentant give him space, this awful writing belongs in one of those free papers you get full of adverts. I hope journalism isn't his day job. He can keep on dreaming about that Motoring Correspondent of the Year award because last time I looked they didn't give it to muppets.

Lol, well I'm 25 and I bought my Scout because I like the looks, the spec and the fact I can fit my bike in the back.

Comparisons with the Kangoo are indeed ridiculous.

I hate stupid reviews like this. Embarrasingly Whatcar's review of the Scout was similar, I am in fact not even sure Whatcar drove the Scout because it had a number of incorrect facts in the article and the picture of the dash was actually of a Roomster 3.

I don't give a rats what this smoker from the telegraph thinks, haven't even read the report.

For the record I'm 34 married with a 1 year old son and the car fits my life style perfectly. Last Friday the car coped with 2 babies, three adults, 1 stroller, 1 pram and all the required bits and pieces for a day out. Those who have kids know how much stuff that can be also the rear seats were in boot space pinching mode.

One thing the huge tailgate makes for an excellent shelter from the rain whilst loading the boot..

Uhhh, the Renoo website, Perhaps you should look in the really obvious places before commenting. I was actually a few quid out, but it does get away from the fact the Kangoo is a poverty spec motor even in it's plush trim. Electric windows are an option :eek: This is the closest spec I can find to a Scout and to be honest it still falls well

I couldn't find the "Random electical faults" or "Spend more time at the dealer than being driven" options for either vehicle which means they must be standard like all other french cars

The Citroen is better equipped than the Kangoo as standard, but both fall well short of the Scout in several departments. I could elaorate on it much more but being as you put no effort at all into making sure you comments were valid then Ill let you find out the rest :P

Finally, we have some understanding as yes you are really missing the point! They do completely different things as they are two completely different cars. It depends on the persons individual needs. I used want a small fast super mini, so I bought one. Now I want a nice safe practical useful vehicle that I can use for work as well as the family. You get A LOT of car for your money.

For some people a Fabia would be better because the don't need the space, for others it's a need thing. You ever try getting a baby seat in the bac of a Fabia? It's possible but not easy to do every day. The Octavia 2 isn't an option because they are largely too expensive and defeat the object and the Octavia 1 looks like a taxi...

Perhaps you should try driving one, it's exactly like driving a MK4 Golf PD 100 interms of handling and power. Because of the looks people get an impression of instability, which to be honest is unfounded. If you want a sweet handling car, go out and buy an MX-5 and then get laughed at when you try to use it for every day things like shopping. I have a track car for getting my rocks off.

The Scout ticks all the boxes for a lot of people and it does it for less cash than pretty much anything else out there partly because it's so well loaded to start with. Go ahead and see if you can find anything to match the spec/performance etc for the same money....

We will be here waiting for you because if you can then that would be a truly amazing deal and it's something we should all know about.

However I doubt any of us will be holding our breath.

I know someone with a 1.6HDi which they bought brand new with metallic paint for £9000 "ticks all the boxes for a lot of people and it does it for less cash than pretty much anything else out there" as for reliablility have you actually owned a Citroen? because the feedback I am reading about Skodas on here isn't too good! I don't know of any other brand new car with brakes that squeal like a MK1 vRS! The main dealers are not interested either. All I say is that variety is the spice of life, it would be very boring if we all drove the same type of car but if I were you I would print out your comments above as you will be needing them alot more in the future!

You haven't just missed one point, you have missed them all.

Quite clearly from what you have just indicated here the Citron Berlingo doesn't do the same things as a Roomster.

As for the MK1 VRS brakes, if the pads were fitted properly they wouldn't squeal. If the dealer doesn't care change dealer. If you want a real laugh at crap service buy a Peugot

cant beleive that reveiw either, and the comments about the kangoo are laughable! even the mulitspaces i used to sell were of better quality than those!!

i used to sell citroens and now driving a roomster is can say without doubt that the roomy wins hands down in everyway

citroens being more reliable than skodas?? pull the other one its got bits of citroen berlingo on it trust me they have come on a long way but its the finish that makes the difference. im sure someone did get a 1.6hdi for around 9k. probably the forte lower hp version. which hasnt even got AC or a cd player, and the engine is ruff and nowhere near as good as the roomy but then thats a different market to the scout.

i was out in the scout on the weekend and i had quite a number of various people looking around it asking questions. it was everyone from a surfer dude, to a guy that seemed to be selling large amounts of dodgy dvds!!

for the record to im 28 without kids, but it fits 2 mountain bikes and various camping gear for when we go to car shows to show off the missus's car

" and "Was the ADC Scout ahead of its time, and its non-appearance a missed opportunity? Undoubtedly. Looking at what turns the practical Skoda Roomster into the funky Scout, it's hard to see how it can't be."
