New Highway code

Featured Replies

Its meant to be the biggest overhaul ever, but Ive found a new rule that many of us are gonna like ;)

For the first time, the Highway Code has a rule on “merging in turn” under the section on lane discipline (Rule 134; Highway Code 2007)

This means we can now bomb it up the outside of the motorway and push in at the end:D anyone who whinges can be pointed to rule 134

Wonder if they are going the same way as the US: "Remember, indication is for the weak" (given the number of cars that indicate right while turning off roundabouts it's a wonder...)

You clearly have not seen the effects of stopping the arrogant and self-important pushing into a queue.

I used to think like this. Now I drive up to the cones.

What, oh what, is the point of reducing the traffic to 2 lanes instead of 3 (or 1 lane instead of 2) 2 miles before the actual bottleneck? All it does is make the tailback longer. If everybody just merged in turn like the new rule suggests, without getting possessive about their 8 square metres of tarmac as if they'd been awarded the freehold, our traffic would flow more smoothly.

If you drive up to the cones, indicate, and wait politely to be let in, I can't see that it causes any problem. It's not being "arrogant", or "self-important", and it's not "pushing in". No pushing is involved, just turn and turn about.

I agree.

I used to sit in the tailbacks for miles, now I just go down to the end and wait to be let in. Its everybody waiting in the one lane that causes the tail backs.

I do get annoyed with people not indicating at round abouts though gggrrrrr!

Im pretty lucky in a works vehicle (a international delivery company) as im pushed for time anyway but the amount of people that do let me squeeze in or squeeze out at junctions is good and when traffic starts going from 3 to one lane.
