Can you adjust tickover on Fabia VRS?

Featured Replies

I've fitted Jabba's new dog bone mount and its a great improvement when in motion but I've got some bad vibes at tickover :( however a slight touch of the throttle gets rid of the worst of it :)

So can anyone tell me if it's possible to up the tickover speed in a "proper" way cos my pikey mod brain is thinking of adding some weights to the right hand pedal!

possibly only by reprogramming the ECU , no manual adjustment available as its all controlled by the ECU

You can adjust the idle speed in vagcom - but remember that the mount has to settle in for a bit, and the vibes are probably helping it along.

Suggest you do a search on adjusting the tickover and wait 2 weeks before you do summat...

[EDIT] oh and do a search for 'cage mod' on here - it really smooths the tickover without any fancy messing about.....

Thanks for that and I have waited 2 weeks and 800 miles so we (jabba and I) think its a (and I quote) harmonics issue.

So, cage mod and vagcom...

Is there anyone in the north derbyshire/manchester area that could help me out with vagcom and I dont mind paying/giving beer etc!

I have done a search for the 'cage mod' but it's not turned anything up, does anyone know any more about this?

There is a post on here somewhere listing the adaption channel for adjusting idle speed.

as requested: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/fabia/less-smoke-smoother-engine-about-90p/80723/

and http://www.briskoda.net/forums/fabia/silicone-grease-less-smoky-diesel-car/64617/

you can get silicon dielectric grease from Halfords (I did 2 months ago..)

I'm a fan of this mod, as you can probably tell - it seems big on the US TDI forums....

Ah THAT mod, I saw this when you posted it earlier in the year, went out got some grease (except it was a spray) and... no difference :D

I could try this again...

I'm not sure if there's anything wrong with the tickover, think it is just a little low (had it on vagcom before and was only about 840?) and increasing it stops the steering wheel bouncing up and down!

Thing is the vagcom also showed a difference on the injectors which may have a bearing (sp?) on the matter too?

Think I could really do with getting to the bottom of that.

Thanks again

BTW did you get your hands on one yet? sure you'll love it when you do.

If all else fails - read this post to the bottom: TJ Magna Custom Polyurethane Engine Mount

He was advised by his polyurethane company to drill 10mm holes in his mount! See the detailed discussion here: U12 Pintara Custom Polyurethane Engine Mount

Good luck!

Wow!

Dont know if I'm quite ready to drill holes in my £130 vibra technics but could use my original mount and sell the bought one on to someone who really needs one??

Thanks for the posts, I should be able to sort this out now.

I've played around with Hondata on my computer, and plugged it into the uprated ECU my car has got. I've got uprated engine mounts which caused vibration.

If VAGCOM is anything like Hondata, you should simply be able to rise the idle...

I have my idle at 1040, which smoothens everything out.

Yeah mine's sweet at 1000 (foot on pedal) just waiting for vagcom response and should end the misery

Do let us know how it all gets sorted mate - you gain a lot with uprated mounts but there is a bit of a trade-off at idle....

Good luck!

Just an interim update on this one, I have actually managed to increase idle speed with vagcom but only from 840 to 882 r/min.

Vagcom values didn't match up to what was already stored in the car so its a wonder that we managed any increase at all.

Hopefully I can get some more information on the adjustments and raise it some more.

On the good side the mount has actually bedded in a little more since my first post, currently at 1100 miles but I'm certain that an increased idle is the only way to live with it day in day out. :D
