Colour Code

Featured Replies

I own a silver 05 plate octavia vRS, and I plan on getting the rubbing (plastic) strips, side, front and rear colour coded. Want to know peeps views on this idea. I have just about made my decision and have found a crowd that will do the job plus remove the stone chips on the bonnet (done by previous owner) and fix the 4 inch scratch that mysteriously appeared on the offside passenger door when it was parked up in my work carpark :finger: :(. I will post pics of a before and after. Cheers Dowdsy

PS. If anybody has already done this on their silver octavia vRS can they please post pics.

to save painting the side ones, simply remove them.

they are only held on with double sided tape so a little persuasion with a heat gun or hair drier will have them off in minutes.

I dont like it, Im staying black ;)

thats just my sig

i never had mine coloured and the car didnt have the side strips as standard, was a base 1.6

must say i prefer them black too - helped by the fact that i have a black octy vrs, they some how make the colour of the car look stronger (esp on red) They look nice black on a red car would never have got them colour coded on my old red octy vrs one but each to their own xxsadie louxx:P

Once you've had black, you never go back eh?

I can imagine that they would look quite good colour coded. My only concerns would be the abount of work getting them to a smooth finish prior to painting. Colour coded and textured wouldn't look good IMO. And also their durability.

OEM colour coded bump strips tend to be more rubbery so when they get bumped by doors they flex, the ones on the Octy are of a more standard solid type so I can imagine the paint chipping off easily.

Be good to see pics if and when you get it done though. I'd hate to attempt mine... have to try and shift the gallon of slippy black to black products before the undercoat would even stick :P

9102 is the paint code for the Diamond Silver

That is from my memory list of useless information

Ooh and if you have black , you want painted and if you have painted , you want black

I had mine colour coded 5 months ago & I've had no issuses with paint flaking off. I bought new OE door rub strips though, because the old strips distorted & bent when pulling them off, but I used my existing bumper strips. My friend did an excellent job in painting them for me, but he didn't smooth them as the time in prep work needed & TBH they still look absolutly fine. I think they look better colour coded on a silver car, but thats each to our own!

It's a personal thing isn't it?

My car is silver, and the black bits set the paintwork off nicely, imo the contrast works well. On the other hand the wifes car is blue, and I think the rubbing strips would look better colour coded, or removed entirely.

Yes I agree its a personal thing. The world would be a boring place if we had all the same tastes.

As always with these things I fully expect my mind to be changed when I see it in the flesh :P

In fairness when I posted that for some reason I had in my mind that the bump strips were alot more textured than they actually are... shows how little I've washed my car recently :P :o

I've just had my bumper strips body coloured on my silver octy and am to fit them tomorrow, the bodyshop didnt even give me the options of smoothing them, so they are textured, if they peel I will be going straight back to paint shop.

I was told by a painter that the material on the fabia coulndnt be painted? I tried to take them off and disaster! The dealer that sold me the car didnt tell me that at some point the doors had been re-sprayed for some reason and so it didnt have factory paint on them.

The result = The strip i started to take off took the paint off as well! Nightmare! So be warned anyone who wants to take the side strips off!
