Octavia Scout FSi v Diesel views and a car sought.

Wow almost full circle...I had the initial 4x4 with the 1.8t engine; remapped of course, so I'm asking now of you Scout owners out there, which one you have.

I'm presently not paying for fuel, I predict I'll be about 25k a year which if I was paying for fuel (I may do at some point you see) would make the diesel a viable option...

But it's a 2k top up and that's a lot of miles at the inflated diesel pump price.

I doubt I'll tow, certainly never caravans and maybe at most a trailer of rubish to the dump or a 1 tonne broken track car.

Yet to drive one, shame there is no dsg varient, was almost set to try an auto. I guess I'm getting on a bit now :D

If any dealers read this, drop me a PM; I'm ready to talk numbers on one of these things.

Cheers for reading and hopefully posting :)

I agree keep looking at Autotrader there has been some nice examples showing anything from 2500 - 5000 miles (probably demo stock) but with a saving of over £2000 on some even with all the toys, however if your willing to stick by your guns most dealers will budge if you start waving your hard-earned.

As for engine I cannot really comment, if you are not likely to carry/pull much weight & you want something slightly smoother/quieter then the FSI would probably be the best choice, but if mpg is important then the diesel is still a great unit & will pull just about anything (so I am lead to believe), I have the diesel version & have to say averaging pretty much what the specs say at 44-45 mpg & thats with a boot load.

It's the fsi and pd on trader that raised the question in my mind. So I was wondering if many fsi's went. I know Skoda don't expect as many to go in the utility vehicle as fsi....sensible really and deep down I know a pd would be better for the long trips :)

Colin, both the used Scouts at Simpsons have MFSW and Maxi-dot which don't seem to be mentioned on the net.

I've had Tdi Scouts for the last 4 months and am well impressed. The first one I drove was the FSi over in the Czech Rep. that too was very impressive, smoother but less economical.
