Card reader

Featured Replies

I am fed up waiting for my card reader (built in to my Epson r300 printer) to download the stuff of my compact flash card (1 GB ) are there faster adapter/readers out there, is there a firewire reader? or will a normal usb 2 reader work quicker, I cant find any comparisons anywhere either......................HELP

Firewire is rated at 400 Mbits/s and USB2 is rated at 480Mbits/s max throughput so both will be considerably quicker than USB. USB2 has a greater following so I'd probably plump with one of those, personally........

Is the Epson a USB or USB2 device? Also what type of ports do you have on your computer? You could fit a USB2 card and check you've got a USB2 cable for the printer.

If it is the unit itself that's slow I expect you'll be able to pick up a card reader quite cheaply from the usual places.

As for comparisons, perhaps if you can let us know how long it takes to transfer a file and the size of that file others can offer similar figures for comparison here.
