Octavia Vrs 18" Wheels

Featured Replies

I noticed when cleaning my wheels at the weekend that no matter how hard a I tried, I couldn't get them to come up really sparkling.

My previous car, a TT, took very little effort to bring them up.

Are the Octy wheels a slightly darker alloy, or is it just me?

Just wanna know, as if they do come up a real nice alloy silver, I will have to get to work on them a bit harder.

Yeah I find this 'problem' with mine too..I thought the same about the Mk1 wheels too. I think they are a darker finish. I just use wash and wax which iseems to work ok. Using spray wheel cleaners I find does 'strip' the wheels of wax and they seem to get dirtier more quickly than just cleaning with wash/wax solution..

I wash mine every week with turtle wax wash n wax stuff in hot water.

Then every month or so I use Muck Off (which is designed for bikes) It is chemical free and works almost as good as wonder wheels.

Most important thing I've found is to use a propper wheel cleaning brush and use hot water.

Takes no effort at all, as long as you keep them relatively clean.

I used the meguiars "HOT RIMS" at the weekend and they came up with very little effort .

Agreed. Best stuff I've used on alloys.

The vRS wheels do seem relatively dark, especially parked next to an L&K, the Sputnik wheels are pretty bright looking and the Pegasus wheels are in the middle of these two in terms of brightness

One of the best wheel cleaners you can get in my opinion is P21s wheel gel.

Instead of getting it off the net you can get it from any Porsche dealers.

Costs about £12-13 from them. Well worth the money as it doesn't damage the finish on any alloys.

That stuff from zymol for cleaning rims is pretty good

It's all "natural" but I deeply suspect that that means that it's heritage is somewhere in yak pee territory.

Thanks all.

I have been using Meg's Hot Rims, which till now has given great results, but I may try some other product and see if that gives any improvements.

They did need a good scrub, as the dealer I got the car from had used some horrible sticky tyre shine, which had covered the wheels and side of the car.

Maybe some new product and a bit of hard work required
