How Much Coolant Does Your Vrs Use

Does this mean a problem with the gasket??

No, just needs a good flush out :)

The system has already been flushed out a few times.

only place the water can go if no external leaks , is into the cylinders or if you have wet carpets a leaking heater matrix - all easily found doing a pressure test

Takes a while for the warm water to get through to Len's heater matrix :D

Is the coolant still nice and clean i.e. bright pink? If so I think you may of just had some air trapped in the system. Just top it up and keep an eye on it mate. :)

Yes it is still pink but where is it going.??????

If there is air in the cooling system, when that air bubbles out of the coolant up through the expansion tank, the coolant will displace that air and hence the level will drop.

Like I say, top it up and keep an eye on it. If its still clean then I wouldn't worry too much.

Other members have said that they have never had to top up their coolants , already wasted 20 quid on two bottles of anti freeze so it is not normal.

Thats a lot!!! Blimey, thought it had dropped just a little bit in the bottle.

Better take it back. Could be as simple as a hose clip.

if you have antifreez in it. you will smell it if you have an external leak when its hot, sweet smell

The Black Vrs curse strikes again............... Had my my mobile phoned nicked from work. Tonight down a narrow country road a car was to far to his right hitting my mirror, the glass popped out and the arm was pushed in but thankfully no smash glass, the motors/heater works only a slight scratched on the arm.

Hoping to meet one of the owners on Monday for a full refund:rolleyes:.

Someone has told me that if I top up the coolant and rev the engine and air bubbles are seen in the coolant bottle it means the head gasket is broke.

Just because a dealer fitted a new head gasket doesnt mean its fixed.

Some mechanics in some main dealer garages are little more than YTS monkeys.

It must still be this, therefore it hasnt been fixed properley in the first place!

Did you actually overheat the engine ever? if not then unlikely to be a warped cylinder head.

How long have you had the car? and have you always lost fluid?

I have had the car 2 months ( car 3 yrs old ) on the third day of ownership I noticed oil in the water coolant. after 2 new head gaskets and 5 weeks later I got my car back. A week later noticed that anti freeze was leaking on the floor in the garage which was a cracked pipe. A couple of weeks after the cracked pipe I noticed the coolant level was going down ( no sign of any leaks ) so I have topped it up with over a litre of anti freeze and thanks to advice on this site I was told to take it to the dealer asap.

Checked net tonight for info and it looks like it might be the head gasket which has gone again for the third time, this will mean me getting a full refund.

You are unlucky. Maybe it had overheated before you bought it then, damaging the head.

So long as its under warrenty, surely a pressure test will prove a problem?

:)Does the vRS suffer from plastic water pump impellers falling off like some of the other VW engines? It might explain why the head gasket failed to start with.

I don't think so, dealer has not said anything on these lines.

Started the car up this morning and white smoke came out for about 2 seconds ( brother took a video of the start up, will post later on ) and I smelled the exhaust and it smelt sweetly.

white smoke means water is getting in to the cylinders - head /gasket definitely

Bradfordfabia brother here,i took the video on my mobile
