Engine Management Light

Featured Replies

I've got a 55 reg Fabia Ambiente TDi, about 23 months old, and have the following problem, the engine management light comes on 10 minutes after the engine has been started, the following is the scenario of events:

  • September 7th, engine management light came on during long journey, over the next couple of days it became apparent that the light would come on after 10 minutes of the engine being started.
  • September 10th, 20,000 mile service, during this service it was diagnosed that the car had a faulty alternator.
  • September 22nd, alternator replaced, problem still persists, after 10 minutes, engine management light comes on.
  • October 2nd, car in all day, diagnosed as a faulty alternator.
  • October 6th, alternator replaced, problem still persists, after 10 minutes, engine management light comes on.

The work is all being done under warranty at my local main dealer, the car is booked in again on October 16th for more investigations, but I'm fast losing confidence in them.

Anyone got any ideas ??

Thanks

Nick

Perhaps you could ask them to provide you with the diagnostic report as without that we couldn't really say.

Could be something along the lines of DFM implausable signal or a terminal 30 fault if they keep replacing the alternator.

I had a similar probel - the ECU light kept coming on after driving it a short while, and we had just bought the car. We took it back to the garage that we got it from, and they kept doing things to try and sort it, but it kept coming on.

They first replaced some sensor which wasnt the problem, and it turned out it needed new piston caps. We didnt have to pay a penny since we had just bougth it so couldnt give you an idea on costs, but I don't think taking the engine apart comes cheap.

Apparently the problem was causing a buildup of something or other which kepr making the light come on. I wish I had more details to tell you!
