Where to buy VAG com lead and software?

Featured Replies

Hi all looking to buy a vag com lead and the software, I have a laptop.

Just wondering the best place to buy one? Ebay ok? And do I simply download the software?

Joel

You missed the a big group buy over on uk-mkivs, however you can just buy the cable from ross-tech and the software is free to download.

The software is free to download. The lead can be bought direct from Ross-Tech in America or from Genden in the UK. At the current exchange rate, it's cheapest to buy direct from the US.

If you buy a lead on eBay, you wont be able to use the recent vag com software as the registration information is now stored in the dongle.

For what it's worth, I think this would get a better response in the diagnostics area of the site.

Oh right I'm sorry.... could an admin move it pleasE?

what do they retail at?

At the current exchange rate cheaper from Ross-tech but by the time you include postage and VAT at customs (no duty tho) I am not sure of the saving.

Now moved.

£150?!?!!?!

will the £20 cable off ebay work? Or not?

They normally work but you'll only have the use of the older and restricted version of the software plus you'll not have any technical support from Ross-Tech.

So you pays your money and takes your chance.

Ahhh ok.

Might give it a go. I'm no mechanic so don't want to go messing with things but would be nice to see what sort of stats etc it brings up. will report back soon.

My ebay cable works fine with vag-com.Dependes on what car you have.

another question... will I be able to do things such as set my car to beep when locked with this cable or just observe settings?

Yes and much more

Can someone just confirm for me that the vag-com hex usb can lead will work with a Fabia?

From reading the site I'm 99% certain it does but could do with someone else just confirming it.

Yes, our HEX+CAN series interfaces work fine on any Fabia you will find - no matter if it's the old or the new model. ;)

Hi all got this today and plugged it in.

Works ok, I can scan for error codes (none have come up :))

However whenever I go into "Select" and try to access individual modules I get an error message.

Do i need to use the control module finder first and scan for them before I can access them?

What lead (interface) are you using?

An ebay one as in the link at the top

USB interface.

VAG COM 4.09

If VAG-COM doesn't access the individual modules, why do you think it accessed the modules to retrieve fault codes?

When you go to [OPTIONS] [TEST], does the interface test properly? That is, does it say interface found, K1 Ok, K2 OK?

What exactly did you do to retrieve fault codes? You have to either go into the module or run an autoscan - and the shareware version you are using will not do an autoscan.

So color me really confused!
