vRS bumper grill

Featured Replies

on the vRS front bumper there is the large honeycombe desgn in the middle and 2 smaller ones either side(these have a bar going horizontally across the middle).

is there any reason why the passanger side is solid(ie between the honeycombe it is solid-no holes)?

One is the air intake. ??

The intercooler is on the side where the open one is. The air intake is behind the solid one.

So if they were both open mesh? Would it then take in more air as it will be flowing through quicker.???

Some members have just removed the panels on both sides, some have tried drilling out the mesh. I am sure someone will comment as I have left mine as is.

I have drilled out the LHS lower grill as this is where the intake fed to my CAI is.

I've also put a grill in the RHS arch liner to hopefully increase the ir flow through the I/C. Nick did a "How to..." which is in the FAQ section somewhere.

why arent both sides drilled out? is there a particular reason for the passenger side one being solid?

No reason other than that it is unneeded to be completely open when the car is still standard. There is a small hole in there which is to allow the temperature sensor to sense the temperature :).

just looks kind of odd.

i guess there wouldnt be any real bennefits unless you had a cold air feed or would there?

Let's see... removing all the plastic 'closings' would at least reduce the car's weight with 50mg. Got to be worth something :D.

i meant for allowing cold air into the side with the airbox :D

You could ditch the plastic grilles in favour of milotec inserts which have no restrictions - see below

cheers guys, i guess the milotec ones robably come from butts.

i dont want to break the standard ones. ill be carefull

best was to get the grills out is put the bonnet up, and reach in behind the bumper, you can apply the force more evenly that way :)

I feel an order going to butts now :)

Hi guys,

anyone know where I can get a chrome surround for the mesh grille?

With Butts it is easier to ring them as they seem to check their e-mail every six months or so.

Kenny

Side ones pull out (on the painted bit that goes across the middle, you will find a recess to grab hold when pulling). The middle one pushes in to be extracted from infront of the radiator.

Mine were milotec via butts, seem to recall not too expensive - in the region of
