Cleaning the throttle body on Felicia 1.3

Featured Replies

im having a problem with my felcia 1.3 where its stalling at low revs and jumps when in first gear and moving away, ive read this sounds like a throttle body problem, could someone roughly tell me where it is in the engine as ive looked but i cant see anything resembling it

Lift off the top of the air filter box and it's the butterfly thing just under the air filter box that moves with the accelerator pedal. If taking off the air filter box completely you will see the throttle cable leading to it held in a rubber thingy with a circlip thing. I'm intending to clean mine soon when I have a little time to do it. Some seem to say spray carb cleaner/brake cleaner in there with the engine running (which I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with myself) or carb cleaner and an old toothbrush without engine running making sure nothing drops in.

The jumping out of first gear when moving off is unlikely to be related is my guess. Does the gear stick move around more than it should (this usually happens left to right)? Does it make any rattling noises when driving? AFAIK the last two are common problems with these Skoda gear sticks/linkages, but I don't know if that would cause jumping out of first gear. Could be the gear box itself.

Is it jumping out of gear or just kangarooing?

hi people,

thanks for the feedback, it just kangeroos , i can stop it from doing this by putting my foot on the clutch and giving it more revs which then makes it scream but it will then pull away.

anewman thanks for the detailed description, its my lunch break now so im off hunting, will let u know the outcome

cheers

In case you don't have any luck, I think it will be in the same place as on the MPi engine in my wife's Fabia - as shown by the red oval on the pic below (ignore the yellow one!)

You'll need to remove 3(?) fixing bolts, pull off the rubber hose on the left, and then the plastic dome thing should lift off (you don't need to remove it from the wide plastic hose coming from the filter...)
