Best way to tap into Instr. dimmer circuit?

Featured Replies

Finally about to start on fitting a boost gauge. Wanted to know what the easiest/neatest place to tap into the instument lighting dimmer circuit would be?

It's a LHD car, the dimmer switch and fusebox are right next to each other (dunno what they're like in a RHD). Would prefer to use the fusebox, if that's possible, as it saves having to pop out the dimmer switch tbh....

Ta muchly for any advice :D

Bas

Not sure your going to be able to Bas. The vehicle dimmer for the lights is a duty cycled 5 v signal from the central electrics ecu.

Handy hint Bas - to remove the light switch, push the switch inwards, and turn to sidelights. It should lock allowing you to pull it straight out. :)

Thanks for the hint Tom - will fiddle with it and check it all out with a multimeter......

Mine's just wired into a positive wire off the radio - quite a chunky one if I remember right. And the earth is tapped into the metalwork around the fuses. I have my light on all the time now as I now need a permanent live for all the other gauges which are digital.
