Roomster Spec 2, what extras do you recommend?

Featured Replies

Hello! :-)

I am new here, still I hope you will like me... a bit ;-)

I am about to change my Peugeot 406 to (highly probably) the Roomster.

Yes, I will miss the comfort, power - but practicality and fuel economy are most important. And the looks, well - Roomie looks quite good!

On the Polish market we have different names for the specs of the car but they are more or less similar to what is offered in UK.

What extras would you recommentd for Roomster Spec 2, 1.9 TDI?

What would make this car better to drive and even more practical?

Polish edition comes with Blaupunkt's TravelPilot Lucca 3.3 navigation as standard.

I can tell that I can probably live without Maxi-dot display, I have seen it in brand new VW Multivan and it is in my humble opinion not so practical at all :-/

Next week is the first test drive, I hope I will find enough space inside :-)

105kgs of weight and 194 centimeters tall.

I'm a bit shorter and a bit wider (;)) and found the Roomster very comfy!

At the dealer's I did sit in Roomster and it was rather ok! :-)

Still I need to see if it is spacious enough while driving, and if I can really see out ;-)

I found comfort, visability and general driving position a big plus point to the Roomster. You can adjust quite a bit.

Welcome to Briskoda!

We have a Roomster 2 and had rear parking sensors, centre head rest and ESP as options. Also rear bumper protection strip, door sill guards and the boot cover thing - to fill gap behind rear seats.

I know not all these affect the driving but it was the package we went for and we're very pleased so far.

I find the view out is fine 99% of the time and, being short, it's the first car I've driven where the sun visor has an effect! The 1% down-side for me is turning right at roundabouts where the door mirror/A-pillar restirct vision a bit (in Poland that would be left turns for you!).

Welcome!

I switched to Roomster from turbo Saab (and miss only couple of things)

so I believe that changing from Peugeot to Skoda is not so crazy idea at all.

In our market are 6 spec versions available (Classic, Style, Style Plus, Sport,Comfort and Scout), in Polish market things should be similar.

I have Comfort level (similar to Roomster 2 in UK but without some extras and with some extras from Roomster 3) and additionally some add-ons:

ESP

parking sensors

headlight washing

sunglasses holder

towing equipment

plastic protectors on door sills and on rear bumper

Other neccesary items were in standard (Climatronic, foglights etc.)

My opinion: if there is possibility to take the Maxi-Dot display, take it, otherwise You will not have coolant temperature gauge and some other functions as well.

I know a guy who is more than 2 metres tall and has a Roomster. Once he told me that during choose-a-car process he walked through all car shops in town and tried to sit on cars. And Roomster was virtually the only one (in his price category) he was able to get in/out without trouble.

I think I will get used to the wideness of the A-pillar, when I changed to my Peugeot from FSO Polonez I was shocked how wide the pillars can be, now it shouldn't be so surprising.

I think I will not need ESP, I am a calm and steady driver.

Rear parking sensors come as standart in Poland, as well as door sill guards.

I heard about the cover to fill the gap behind rear seats - good point!

In the Polish market the Classic version is simply called Roomster, we don't have Style Plus - the rest is the same.

Style, which I am considering comes with navigation, parking sensors, plastic protectors and Semi-automatic Air-con. (also ABS, 4 airbags, front electric windows etc. )

And this makes me to wonder, is it a good idea to pay extra for Climatronic?

It costs 999pln (around 150 Pounds) but what concerns me is its reliability.

The car will probably make 400 kkm (250 thousand miles) in 6-7 years - if it is going to break all time I won't be too happy. I guess that simplicity is a key to success here.

You made a good point about the Maxi-dot and lack of the engine temperature gauge - I will have to think about it.

So am I (aren't we all?) but the ESP is for coping with the other idiots and the situations they set up on the road. I prefer not to end up facing the wrong way on the motorway if there's a nasty incident. It's recommended in many reports (and standard on the Scout in the UK).

By the way I can spell "restrict" but still haven't got the hang of quotes in replies. D'oh!

Just press the Quote button and remember NOT to delete fields in [ ]

Hmm... I wanted to show you an example but it does not work, I wonder why?

t_kucyk

The quote function isnt working at the moment! Ive tried a few times lately.

PS I see you had an FSO , I drove one of its ancestors , a Polski-FIAT in 1987! ;)

Try reading the What Car? article about ESP and also watch their video.

The video especially has converted me to having ESP and I, too, am a 'calm and steady' driver!!

Be safe!
