vrs rev counter

Featured Replies

Ive noticed something strange with the rev counter and dont know if there is a problem with it.

When driving at 70mph in 6th and suddenly lift off the rev counter drops a bit, I first thought it was the clutch slipping but think its fine. Its only on 37k and not chipped. I think it may just be the rev counter.

How much do the revs drop by? I imagine there's quite a bit of wind-up in the transmission in top, so could it just be that taking your foot of the gas could make the revs drop a small amount...?

Wouldnt say they drop a lot, 100rpm max. Just noticed it and now im bit worried.

err isnt that whats supposed to happen when you take your foot of the accelerator

I would be more worried if the revs climbed too quickly when accelerating. A drop of 100 or so when you lift off is pretty normal in my experience, not just in my VRS. There is a lot of engine braking even in 6th with it being a Diesel.

Thanks for your thoughts...

Thats what I was thinking

Sorry I can't be more help

Mine does exactly the same, not really worrying about it

I wouldn't go worrying about that, mate. It's probably the kind of thing that has always happened (as it should!), but your brain has only now picked up on it and worried you about it. The revs can drop off quite sharply at high speeds due to wind resistance etc.

This has got to be up there with the "what's that whistling noise at about 2000rpm?" question. lol
