Back end kicks sideways over bumps?

Featured Replies

Wowee

ive had my Octavia vRS 2004 for just over 3 weeks now and have become more and more aware of a nasty problem. If the left left hand tyres roll over something like a sunken manhole cover, the rear end kicks sideways, the right side is ok. Needles to say its quite fear inducing if your unlucky enough to find one on a bend. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem, rear shocker maybe, bushes, I had a MK4 cortina that used to go sideways sitting in traffic!!:(

opposite lock ;)

I should clarify that its as the rear left wheel hits a bump the whole rear end kicks sideways:(

same happens on my Fabia on a certain roundabout near here

If bought from a dealer take it back

If you can reproduce it on a piece of road local to him so much the better

If bought privately could be a multitude of things, shocks, bushes tyres, a bent car, get a mechanic to put it up on a ramp & give it a once over

I bought it from a Skoda dealer, i'll give them a call and wait for the excuses.

Incorrect tyre pressures, badly worn tyres, different make or model of tyres on each side, worn shock absorbers, worn bushing on the suspension or anti-roll bar, broken spring, loose wheel nuts, loose supension bolts. That's a few for a start...

The octy has a solid axle so if one wheel goes out it transmits it thru to the other side which give you the Kick out feeling. If its violent its most likely the axle to body mounts on there way out

Agreed, usually caused by rear alxe bushes when they go weak or start to split.

Sounds exactly like my Golf Mk4 behaved when the rear axle bushes went; VW replaced the complete axle under warranty!

My MKI vRS and MKII have the same trait to a certain degree.

I just thought it was because it was a combi with a firm rear end
