Only gone & bought a Vrs !!!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Well I've spoken about it for long enough...threatened to do it for long enough...eventually persuaded my better half the neighbours would still speak to us ( & we could be smug knowing they'd paid more for the 'same' car with their VW/Audi's etc )...& now I've only gone & done it.

Thanks for your help ( I was on here most of Sat night reading the posts )...so far. I can see this being a regularly visited place.

Only went out for a pizza & bought a 8.5month old Octavia VRS petrol hatch in Race Blue...loaded with extra's ( the 'freebie' stuff that came as a pack - 18"' wheels, Jumbo & park + Xenons/Cruise)..should get it at the weekend.

I think I've got a good deal although the old fully loaded 2.0 D4D Avensis T-spirit won't be happy with it's trade in price. We've had loads of VW's & other stuff in the past...I am sure we'll be happy.

Only thing that looks like being an issue is the insurance...why should they charge much more just cos it has a few factory fitted extra's...anyone any suggestions who I can try?

Welcome

A few on here use chrisknott.co.uk but it's worth

a few phone calls to see if you can get a better price :)

Welcome to the 'club' :D

Welcome to Briskoda.

Thanks for the responses so far guys...

Had been on Confused & done a quote as 'no mods' already but my current insurers reply that they will treat as a modified car because of the 'factory fit extra's' has got me thinking.

Have been online to AFlux & wait a response...do this Brentacre I see mentioned have a website? I'll also check out your other suggestions.

Thanks again

try adrian flux mate,im paying less for my octy than i was on a pug 205 mi16!

Be careful with Adrian Flux and who they try to place you with.

Their most common option is Trinity Lane Insurance - Registered in Malta and part owned by a director of Adrian Flux. Not for me i'm afraid.

When pushed they offered a quote with a company called Equity Red Star. Did some googling and found lots of positives and also they were Skoda Insurance last year.

I tracked down Equity Red Star and tried them directly who came out cheaper so I phone AF back and they beat the original price. AF are easier to get mods through with so I decided you use them as the broker for Equity Red Star.

Welcome :)

I am insured with Direct line, they only put Cruise control as a modification even though I thought it would of been the Zenons (both were extras at new) :)

Unbelievable carry on...I've managed to get my existing insurer Admiral to cover me for the rest of my policy this year (two weeks) to give me time to sort out new cover but any 'mods' as they want to call them won't be covered if I have to make a claim !!! but then they want to charge an extra £150 for them next year...and still won't cover them...I don't think so !

Most of the other online options aren't much use, tried Direct Line, Elephant etc...and get the same standard blurb about 'mods' not covered. Interestingly More Than claim that they will...so we'll see.

I've still to speak to the Brentacres,ChrisKnotts, Sky's of the world but AFlux replied with a price, whichly likely go up when they find out about the 'mods'?

Anyway, just wanted a rant & to thank you all for your help so far...should get the Vrs on Monday...can't wait.

Cheers

Now we seem to be getting somewhere...I've been in touch with all those companies suggested...at the moment Brentacre & Sky are almost the same (few pounds in it - same company) & I've yet to talk to ChrisKnotts but will do. One or two of the 'onliners' have tried to suggest they are covering the car but when I drill down they admit they'll not repair/replace any extra's.

If they are all about the same...who would you guys go with...in terms of service.

Out of interest, do any of you fit winter tyres to your Vrs (if so any preferred makes)...we had a V5 Bora which we fitted them to every year & it certainly helped.

Thanks again, I'll have loads more questions I am sure...car coming Monday now !
