fabia vrs problem

Featured Replies

Ive just purchased the vrs 4 weeks ago it felt great now the car feels very lazy and pulls no way as much as it did before. just had it seviced 2 weeks ago and for the last 7 days felt as slow as my old diesel corsa!

really worried what could be the problem

Where did you buy it, and have it serviced? I'd take it back for them to look at.

Could perhaps be that the boost pipe for the turbo's come loose, or split - or a problem with the MAF (mass airflow sensor).

bought it private its got the 44k on the clock i know the lads who serviced and i bought the parts so i know no crap went on it. This happened a week after the service could it by dodgy tank of fuel?

p.s i also at the service droped a k and n panel in

I would say its your MAF sensor. K&N panels or a green panel like i use let more air pass which can contain the oil from the filter and the maf sensor wears faster with oil contaminating it.

Thats how i understand it anyway some will correct me if iam wrong.

If you do a search ull find out how to test if it is your maf sensor thats gone. You disconnect it or somthing, A search will bring you what you need.

Do you run the K&N with the PD160 Air pipe??

Cheers

I'd agree with the above. An overoiled K&N filter could possibily lead to the symptoms you describe. So I'd direct your efforts into checking over the MAF sensor.

Is it measurably slower or does it just feel slower? Also is the car running especially smokey?

MAFs work by using a hot wire and the oil inhibits it and may cause the wire element to be damaged. Would imagine a filter would need to be heavily over-oiled though to cause problems. It should be dry to the touch....

Have a look under the hood and check that all airhose connections are snug. Take a look at the airfilter as well.

Run a vagcom on it and find out exactly what may be wrong (there's a map of helpful Briskodians with it somewhere on this site).

Good luck

Bas

Unplug the MAF. If the car then doesn't get even worse, there's a good chance it's screwed. There have been a good few cases of K&Ns wrecking them, probably as others have said, due to over-oiling.

To 100% Check the MAF you'd either need to change it or do some VAG-COM logging, but it sounds like a likely thing to me.

K&Ns have been known to wreck MAFs - It's a fairly well documented thing on here. Compare this to green cotton filters, and it's different. Absolutely NO idea why as I always thought they were the same thing, but I've run an oiled green panel filter for.... Must be 60,000 miles. Same MAF still.

The filter was oiled by factory asked k&n about the maf it may be a sales speach but they reckon the oil does not effect the maf life and said they have seen this been said many times on the net but not 1 person has sent them a maf in to verify the problem surpraised when you think how much they cost. They suggested whiping off the negative for 30 mins to reset the learned map but this mainly helps the induction kits not normaly panels.

Thinking about getting it mapped (power chips) but i read in the haynes manual if you disconnect the ecu a new basic map and inmobiliser HAS to be installed at the skoda dealer?

Thanks for the current reply's

Tbh, if K&N's did ruin MAFs how many cars do you think would be affected. K&N are one of the world's leading air filter manufacturers and wouldn't survive very long if their filters wrecked engines.

The problem lies in people overoiling them when the car is serviced and this then damages the hot-wire element in the MAF. This would happen to any oiled filter, be it from Green, Pipercross, etc, etc.

If the filter has done 30k miles without being cleaned then that's not going to help - mine is cleaned every 10k and has never caused me any problems (been on for 50k+ miles) :D

As for "chipping", these days tuners can remap (change the program on) the existing ECU which means the ECU no longer needs to be removed and soldered and can be done just by plugging a laptop into the car. Lots of tuners to chose from - have a look through the site sponsors and pick one you like the sound of... :D

just had it remaped now so now all is well

Surley if you had a problem it would of been best to get that sorted before tuning it?

Where is the MAF sensor to remove? Mine is running like a bag of ****, (seems under powered and hesitates when youput your boot down, but I have had a good look, even underneith and all seems snug.

There is however a slight hiss when you press the accelerator which is leading me to conclude that there is a hole or split somewhere, so is there a common area that they can come unseated or split as it's only been doing it for a week or so and hasn't got any worse?

The garage said it could be the intercooler but I can't see how a stone would get up there to do that much damage?

If I remove the MAF sensor will I notice it straight away?

Cheers,

Ben

just a thought - disconnect the hose to the EGR and take a quick peek. I was shocked at how clogged mine was after only a few months.

:iagree:

I was just about to post something up about mine not pulling like it should bu I think this solves the problem, noticed this last night on way back from a meet seemed not as quick off the mark.

after i red x it and put a new tank of fuel in it seemed to be alot better plus the fact if my ecu was not use to the k&n then when it was mapped it would have took this into account

I gave my car a wee run last night and it pulled a bit better, I'm going to whip the air filter off at the weekend disconnect the MAF sensor and have a look, and then fill up with some diesel and give it a wee run.

Failing that I think I will go back to the skoda dealer
