Does someone changed the roof antenna?

Featured Replies

Hello.

I am interesting how easy is change of roof antenna. There is a part with GPS-antenna, I think about it (now have only radio version). Does someone changed the roof antenna? Is it necessary to completely remove an interior roof cover? If YES - the work is too difficult.

Thank you

It's quite easy and fairly straight forward although you may need a little help when after installing the new antenna on tightening down the nut underneath the antenna. Two pairs of hands are always better than one.

If you are installing GPS you will also need to route a new cable in the headlining and down the passsanger A pillar, this will enable you to connect to the GPS device installed.

If you want some pictures to help just let me know....:)

Thank you for a quick reply.

Additional questions:

Does it possible to remove old and install new antenna without removing of a whole roof cover? How you reach the nut without it? Does it need a special tool for removing a nut?

You can get to it without completely removing the lining. Just unclip the plastic cover and you should be able to get your hand between the lining and the roof - just be careful not to crease the lining. I changed my aerial when I fitted a DAB radio. Getting the old one off is very easy, but putting the new one on requires long arms in order to hold the aerial in place whilst tightening the nut - I have long arms, but if you can get someone else to help, this would be better.

Routing the extra cables to the front is very easy. Just pull back the lining along the top of the doors and feed the cable down the "A" pillar under the cover (Do this on the passenger side as it's easier to route the cable to the rear of the radio.)

I forgot to say, it doesn't need any special tools. I just used an adjustable spanner.
