Flashing red on standard head unit

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

As i'm sure some of you are aware im upgrading my stereo system at the moment.

Today i've got all the wiring ready for the new headunit / sub.

I've just noticed that now when everything is off the right "dial" which control fast forward and skip track flashes red every few seconds, I've never noticed this before.

Any ideas? Anything to worry about?!

Just to add, no errors from vag-com.

I've had loadsa bits and pieces up today!

What have I done?!!!

Mine does that and always has - but I have no idea why. Not sure if this was any help.

Now after 5 years I'm curious as to why.

The LED can be turned off by going into the setup menu on the radio. Just press and hold the TP button for a second or so and then press the rocker button below until you see LED in the display. Then turn the volume control until the display says OFF.

The LED flashes to show that the radio has a security code.

Thanks for satisfying my very brief moment of curiosity!

Ooooh, nice one mate.

I've NEVER noticed that ever. Thought i'd messed a wire up somewhere :)

Also... if I press the lock key once the led on the door lock flashes... but if I press lock and the deadlock quickly it doesn't flash?

Anyone else like that?

If I lock... then deadlock a little while after it still flashes.

If you push the lock button on the remote once, the car locks and deadlocks are deployed and led in door flashes. if you push button twice deadlocks are deactivated and led does not flash. This is unlike other cars vauxhall etc where the button has to be pushed twice to activate deadlocking.

Again, I did not know this. I've learnt loads today ;)

Sorry for potensial dumb question, but why wouldn't you want to have deadlocks on ?

No idea? I'd also like to know!

Guys, if I buy a iso adaptor from halfords will it sort out the power and also the kline diagnostic problem?

You don't need to buy a wiring adaptor. All you'll need to do is cut the powered antenna feed on your new headunit (probably blue and white) and insulate it up. You may also need to switch the permanent and switched live round. So instead of the wiring being Red-Red, Yellow-Yellow it will be Red-Yellow, Yellow-Red.

So;

Cut the blue+white cable on the cable I get with the headunit and tape it up. This is the K-line?

Then change the red and yellow cables.

I'm getting an alpine headunit btw.

Well on my Alpine the power leads were on bullet connectors. You can swap them round here, red to yellow, yeloow to red.

The blue and white wire isn't the K wire, it's a powered output from the headunit that would make your electric ariel go up and down,if you had one! However, on our cars the pin that it goes through on the ISO connector block connects it to the K wire on the cars wiring loom.

Edit: I'm sure it is the blue and white wire you need to cut, not 100% though. Check the manual, it definatley is the arial power and I think it uses pin 8 of the ISO connector.
