alrite every body??!! im a new user and i have just joined.

this is my very first post - ever...lol!!

my uncle has just bought a BMW 323ci (traitor) and i have been given his old 2000 fabia 1.4 8v and it is revving very highly in all gears. the revs are also raising and dropping constantly - even in fifth between 2000 and 3500 rpm. also the timing chain needs changed as it is rattling. i have been told this is the clutch slipping!!?? does this sound right??

i have been quoted £165 in vat+labour for the clutch by a local garage here in Northern Ireland.

i have also been quoted around £100 for the changing of the timing chain.

do these prices sound resonable?

your replies are appreciated.

howzit goin m8!!

do you know much about the 1.4 8v fabia??

the one i am accquiring also has a strong smell of rotten eggs cumin through the heater when both hot and cold air is being blown through

Hiya.

Your original described symptoms do sound pretty much like a worn clutch and timing chain, and the prices to replace aren't too bad.

As to the rotten eggs smell, try some fuel from a different garage to your usual, in case it's as simple as you having a batch of high sulphur fuel, before doing anything that costs money.

thx m8!

i have been told there is a water leak coming through into the heating system and that the water has gone stale - hence the smell!

thanx for your help ken and i shall endevour to try your idea before i try getting it drained.

Is any body aware of a place that i could find CHEAP parts for my little 1.4 8v fabia??

both mechanical and styling parts.

thanks.

I don't know where they are on the Fabia, but there are usually some heater drains which can get blocked up with leaf mould and the like. They can be cleaned with a stiffish piece of copper wire if that's the problem.

Join Freedom for 10% discount at GSF, and site search Butts of Bawtry for a useful weblink on cheap parts.

Howya, you have a PM
