New 1.6 TDi 100hp & 130hp.

Featured Replies

I've just seen in portuguese auto magazine that V.A.G announced new 1.6TDi and 1.2T engines. 1.6TDi will have 100 and 130 hp and be launched in 2008. First engines will go with new Audi A4. New 1.2 Turbo 100hp would go to new Polo, in 2008 as well. Engines 1.9TDi, 1.6 and 1.2 12V will be discountinued.

Now, I have some doubts that magazine doesn't answer, so I was wondering if someone in this forum has some more news about new engines:

1) Are we talking here about "Common Rail" diesel?

2) Will new engine go with Octy facelift in 2008 or will have to wait until new model in 2011?

3) What about 2.0TDi? "Common Rail" and more bhp? Discontinued?

All new diesel engines made by VAG will undoubtedly be Common rail. The PD system has had it's time and can no longer compete with the latest generation common rail units on refinement, performance and most critically emissions.

There is an all new 2 litre common rail TDI unit on it's way very soon. It will appear in the vRS sometime next year. PD units will be discontinued due to the aforementioned emissions issues.

Most if not all VAG TDI's at and above 2.7 litres are already common rail.

Skoda seem to have better access to the latest engines these days, they got the new 1.8TFSI engine pretty much straight away. Maybe the new Fabia vRS will be a prime candidate for the 1.6TDI 130 although I would have hoped for a more powerful engine cicra 150BHP.

VW/Audi are keeping the 'W' series engines to themselves - for now :P

Agree....This thought has crossed my mind a few times over the past few months

One of the sales bods at a Skoda dealer said it would be the 2 litre derv burner but this was before these 1.6 TDI rumours.

Could be the new 2 litre CR unit to give it the edge over some of the competition. 130BHP isn't enough, the diesel hot hatch segment has come on a pace since the original Fabia vRS was launched.

The 1.2 turbo in the Clio is a great little engine, if VW better it then they are onto a winner!!

Diesel like torque and economy, with petrol characteristic and refinement. What more could you want!!

i wonder if regulatory requirements mean vw roll out an engine across the group quicker?

Don't expect a Fabia vRS anytime soon.

I heard there were two sport versions scheduled for release.

Quite tempted to test drive the Twingo GT myself.... bet its a hoot :D
