ECU - Is my dealer pulling a fast one?

Featured Replies

I mentioned on here before that my car was having trouble with its idle speed - it varies between 1500 and 2000 rpm.

I played around with it on vag com within the parameters recomended by ross-tech (128-134 if i remember correctly) and the revs did drop slightly - but not to 800 - 1000.

So I've put the car into Skoda for them to have a look and they have said that they think there is a problem with the ECU as when they plug their VAG 1551/2 in they can reset the revs - but when they turn the car off and restart it the new settings are not saved and they are back to square one.

Now I'm 95% sure my vag com adjustments were saved - I just can't remember if I turned the car off after making the adjustments.

They have informed me that they think its because the ECU terminals are corroded. This sounds like rubbish to me as if they are corroded surely my vag com and thier VAG 1551 would not be able to communicate with the ECU.

Is there a test that could be run to see if the ECU is nackered?

If the terminals are corroded I'm going to try to insist that the ECU should be replaced under warranty.

(ps - yes there are aware of my cars history , and haven't mentioned it could be as a result of the accident)

can yuo see any corrosion on the terminals? surely a quick clean could sort it? could it be MAF related?

Cheers

I haven't checked the terminals - the car is still at the dealership.

The ECU has never been disconnected or been out of the car so I'd like to know how / why the terminals got corroded - beaing in mind the car has been inside for the last 2 years!!!

If the ECU is at fault and not saving any config adjustments surely I would see a fault code in vag-com indicating that - wouldn't I?
