New Octavia TDI Owner

Featured Replies

Hey all, just been on thursday and bought myself a late 04 Mk2 Octavia Elegance TDI 140 in metallic grey with the sports suspension pack.

what i forgot to check when i was test driving was if it played MP3.

it had a disc changer in the boot and the stereo in front said Stream i think.

anyone know if this plays mp3?

if it doesnt have a jumbo box then no, but i do have a write up on here on how to add your own mp3 lead/kit for the octy for under a tenner ;)

Whats a jumbo box lol? do you have a link to that write up? thanks!

Mine's an 06 Octy and it doesn't play MP3s. The 07 model version of the Stream does I believe. Others will be able to advise for definite.

hmm, so i could go find an 07 HU then i guess, i assume it would be same fitment?

The Audience unit will play MP3 on all 6 CD's, the stream unit will not and the Stream MP3 I believe only plays it on the single CD in the head unit.

RRP for Stream mp3 is around £445 - check the accessories section on Skoda's website. They can though be found for less than half this on this forum or ebay

OR

you might fit an aftermarket head unit (Alpine/Kenwood etc) and get improvements all round (AM radio reception on Stream units is particularly poor).

well i do have a one year old high end Kenwood unit, but i didnt want to lose the functionality of the standard unit with the screen by the speedo etc...

anyway hopefully getting my Octavia today, quite excited actually!

Maxidot display of mpg/time/distance etc. is unaffected by aftermarket stereo; some units would display radio stations etc. (if you have multi function buttons on your steering wheel) - I think. A 'standard' install will probably loose these but a full CANBUS install will keep them.

If that all makes sense!

okay yeah i know what you mean! i might see about installing the Kenwood then.. is there stalk control on the Octy? How do i go about a full Canbus install then?

i was so busy checking everything else i forgot to check the ICE side of things!
