Hello! Adrian Lodge Here.....

Hi! Just joined to hopefully get some help.

I have a 1.9TD Octavia Estate '04 model, and the water pump has just broken.

The drive cog on the front has shattered, this threw off the cambelt & Lunched the engine.

My final bill is £1,360 & at the moment, Skoda is not being very forthcoming with any help at all.

I appreciate the car is out of warranty, but surely they should offer me some help.

I bought the Octavia having previously had a Felicia with no problems...

Any one else heard of problems with the water pump on this model?

Sorry to start my postings with a moan, but Skoda has always been great in the past :(

Welcome, hope you get it sorted :)

Water pumps are pretty prone to failure. Usually the impellor on the rear shatters and stops pushing water around. However worst case which sadly looks like its happened to you is a piece of the impellor gets jammed stops the spindle which throws the belt.

Most people change the water pump along with the cambelt as a precaution at 60k or four years.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, it's not the impellor that broke. Its the large cog which drives the cambelt that's shattered, surely this must be a maufacturing fault & not just wear & tear?

Sounds nasty & looks expensive :(

Lets hope it's fixed soon!!!

Hiya.

Well, the waterpump drive wheel (rather than the plastic impellor) failing is a bit of a one-off I think. That said, I'm not sure how much joy you'll get out of SUK by claiming a manufacturing fault.

It's fixed now, complete new head water pump etc.

£1,196......................................

My last three lots of over time gone!!!

Welcome, glad you got your car sorted.

Thanks good to be here, still got no reply from Skoda UK re contribuing to cost of repairs though.

Waiting for response to last e-mail confirming cost & part at fault.

Ade ;-)

Ade, welcome :) But at least it will be good for a few more miles :)
