Felicia - squeal from clutch

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a 1995 skoda felicia, when i start the car in the mornings I am getting a squeal when i put the car into gear, the sound goes away after a few minutes when the car is warmed up, was wondering if this was a common problem and if it needs immediate attention? Thank you in advance for your responses/suggestions.

Ritchie.

I have exactly the same thing on my felicia, at the last service they said it was the clutch lever that needed adjusted; they made my clutch a lot shorter but still have the squealing noise for a minute or two

Thanks, so it is nothing that needs immediate attention?

Also, is there any chance that this problem has something to do with the transmission?

whenever i change gear there is a sound like the wheels spinning but it only happens for about a few seconds every time i change gear...is this the same sort of problem?

clutch release bearing maybe?

I think i also get that problem unless I'm really gentle with my clutch pedal.

May need that looking at soon though.

Squeal with pressure on the clutch pedal is usually the release bearing.

With the engine cold, I'd suspect the auxilliary drive belt needs retensioning.

It's 99% certain that it's a drying up clutch release bearing. Mine's been like it for 2 years but only when it's cold & damp and for a couple of minutes after I've started the car. It'll get changed when I get a new clutch.

The squeel actually goes away when there's pressure on the clutch and it warms the bearing up a bit quicker too.

I thought it was the aux belt til I changed it & the noise persisted.

Reassuring words when they come from an experienced mechanic! I'll remember not to panic when my own car starts squeling.

I take the opportunity to say that you've made an impression, Psyzygy, after just a couple of days at Briskoda you've updated a number of threads with handy tips, I hope you'll hang around for a while  (Even if you don't do fuel injection ;) )

TBH I was a bit concerned when I first experienced it and I'm a bit heavy on two of the three pedals :o. When it didn't go bang or crunch I treated it as a quirk. Times to worry about a crb (clutch release bearing) are when it squeals when disengaging the clutch (pushing in) or whirrs or rattles when engaging it (letting the pedal out).

You're very welcome Swedishskoda. This is the first forum I've taken an active interest in in over 12 years of being online and you get what you gives :)

Give me time ;) I actually learned about diesels whilst training as a mechanic too though I've rarely worked on them. I was even under the impression there were similarities
