apologies if this has been asked before (I did have a quick search) but can current owners let me know does the new Fabia 2 come with isofix rear seat mounts (both sides) as standard?

The Mk1 did, so I'd be surprised if they deleted it from the Mk2 specs...

It might be a requirement but it seems not all ISOFIX fittings are equal - Britax, for example, doesn't approve use of the Britax Evolva 2/3 ISOFIX with an 03 Fabia's ISOFIX fittings. So even if the car has ISOFIX, it may not be compatible with all vehicles.

This is because stage 2/3 seats are so much wider at the back than stage 0/1 seats that the shape/size of the backseat prevents them from lining up with the Isofix points on small cars. They don't fit the Octavia either.

Incidentally, the Isofix standard specifies a 5-point harness, so stage 2/3 seats can't be called Isofix. Britax have called theirs Isofit, and Jane have gone for something woolly like "Isofix compatible".

I have an Octavia and until recently had a Britax ISOFIX seat in there but we just moved to the next stage of seat for our son (the more upright style which use the cars seat belt and have the booster base, not sure if this is stage 2/3) anyway the point of this reply is to say that we looked at Britax's ISFOIX seat which was £120.00 as opposed to an average of about £70.00 for other makes without the isofix system and we found that with the britax seat the booster is non detachable which would mean yet another purchase of a seat as your child grows whereas the other makes (we bought a Graco Rally Sport) can have the backs removed as the child grows leaving just the booster seat for them to sit on.

So while the Britax Isofix inspires a feeling of extra safety with the booster style seats they are actually not that great because by the time you need this style seat your child should be heavy enough to hold the seat in position by their own body weight alone that coupled with the fact they use the cars seat belt should mean that they will be protected well enough if you are unfortunate enough to have a knock.

I would recommend the ISOFIX for the 2nd stage seat though they are very sturdy and can be used in cars without ISOFIX also as they are compatible with the seat belt method of securing them. But they are a lot more expensive, I think that Maxi Cosi also have an Isofix system so may be worth checking their seats out.

Our 2012 does, so I'd be surprised if a 2013 didn't. It's easy to check anyway, just pull up the seat base and see if the fittings are there.
