Fabia vRS shopping list following Brunters...

Featured Replies

Just before I go off to Beirut, I wanted to express my thoughts on much-needed "upgrades" following brunters.

1- Brakes.

Colin has the best value for money setup - 312 discs and DS2500 pads. Not too sure which provides the best improvement, but I think the pads are a must-buy and if changing pads, might as well get some bigger discs but which will fit under the standard 16" wheels. Have yet to be in a furby with 4 pots (eh, Ross?) so cannot compare, but from what I can tell and from the confident stamping of Colin's and a certain taxi driver's foot, I think normal discs and pads will suffice :D:thumbup: See Colin's post for photographic satisfaction warranty ;)

2- Suspension.

Just how much fun can you have with some KWs? Jon's 3 varient were very nice, if a little too soft on the corners (bouncing off), but very very grippy. When combined with 1- above, perfect for that "I'm approaching that chicane far too fast. Help, I'm gonna diiiiiieeeeee" moment. Again, feeling has been illustrated in that post of Colin's - a pic is worth a thousand words (or 4 if abbreviated to the "I'm gonna die" version)

3- Remap.

Graeme's fabia was mightilly imressive. Looking at the speedo, was cruising a constant 20-30 mph faster than mine. I'm sure the eibachs help, but combined with KW, I'd hate to think ;)

Still debating about the Revo remap for various reasons. I have an idea which I'll check out with ColinD...

4- (optional) Magic tree air freshener.

As proved on the day, it does improve performance, and don't believe and BStter who tries to make you believe the contrary. That SDI was really flying (but strangely enough, don't recall seeing one hanging from the mirror  )

Any other thoughts or alternative suggestions? Please post.

Beirut, here I come for some overtime :D

Brakes are a definate... :D

Personally i think a decent improvement will be had from changing the tyres. the car had the ability to show up octys in the chicane and the tighter corners, but the tyres just wash out.

also a strutbrace is a fairly effective mod.. (easy to fit too:cool: ) will make a difference on track.. and a more subtle difference when pressing on on your favorite b road too. improvement would be definately more noticeable with any other suspension mods.

Need to replace from left tyre with the spare thanks to the small handling track (nothing to do with the driver who kept going round and round :D )

But it was fun :D

Xavier,

I don't think they do the 3s for the Fabia, yet. You might want to look at either the H&R (bit "firm" for road use), Eibach Pro-race or Bilstein. Mine were too soft, they were on their "road" settings as I couldn't be bothered to adjust them as I thought it wouldn't make much difference running standard, crap tyres (plus I wanted them to die as I have some Nero's with my name on). They aren't even at 1/2 stiffness at the moment.

Re the airfreshener, as an alternative, try the Feu Orange! Not as quick to freshen as the Magic Tree but it holds its smell better (its all about how long it holds rather than sudden spikes  ). Both smell equally badly :D

its all about how long it holds rather than sudden spikes

:rubchin: I wonder what you're getting at there....

Is Obi-Wan referring to what I think he is? ;)

No. I was trying to keep my reply in the spirit of the thread, rather than anything else. :D

;)

For braking upgrade options... see forsale section :D
