Self opening windows!

Featured Replies

Anyone experienced the windows opening themselves on the car after it was switched off and locked? This happened last Sunday and apparently it happened again yesterday.

Thanks in advance.

Try the search. It came up last week IIRC.

Yep, I was going to say someone else on here reported the same only a few days/week or so ago.

Give it a forum search for windows or suchlike - might be a few threads to search through but you'll find it!

I suppose the basic question to cover - is it human error e.g. key in pocket and open button pressed long enough for the global opening to work.

If not then likely to be a technical issue.

Galaxy/Sharran's are known for it. Check the carpets under the seats aren't wet, could be the ECU shorting out.

We've had a Pug 406 and Laguna do it randomly in the middle of the night but on the Ocatavia it's nost likely someone sitting on the unlock button within range of the car.

Hi, i've got the same problem on a new octavia.the garage say they have had some problems with this and think it is the key fob.this they will be changing shortly, and i will post a response if it works or not. on a similar note, my brother has a vw polo which used to do the same thing, and they said it was water getting into the locking mechinism, and used some sort of oil to it. this seems to have worked in his case, and the equipement is the same.so time will tell. grant.

I had exactly the same problem and exhausted the dealers trying to find out why.

Then one day it hit me! I used to keep my remote key in my back pocket and when i was in the house and would sit in a certain postition on a semi-hard surface like a desk chair and i would accidentally press and hold the key which as we all should know drops or raises the windows.:o

I returned to my dealer and appologised but they were so busy laughing about it they said it's fine.

Phew

Dave

i had a chap in today about this. it turns out he was also doing the same thing. putting the key in his back pocket and leaning on it. the funny thing is he couldnt understand why he came to find the windows down but the car locked :)

Just had this happen to me! Went to move the car and found all the windows down and seats wet :(

:)Well, i have had the fob changed for about 2 weeks and have not had any more occurances, so, hopefully the problem may be solved. will get the other one changed next week, as i'm down to 1 working key at moment. hope this helps.!!!

I suspect mine was due to over crowding in the key cabinet :(

Took ages to clear the screen the next day :(

sounds like button got jammed.

I have had this happen, no jammed buttons etc, just came out of the hotel and found the windows wound down.

It's not happened again though, no faults shown on Vag-Com either so I am putting it down for Arthur C Clarke to have a look at.

Hmm I had this problem today...but it was not all the windows...just the driver one and it was only half way down!

I'm not too sure whether the button pressed too long etc as I let the wife open the car as I was getting stuff out of her car! But I am 100% sure I closed it! :(

If the button was pressed then all windows would have been half down..............

I'd agree with that, must be something else causing it. Would be interested in hearing updates on this.

Thats what I thought....I don't drive with my windows down as I keep climate on. Also When I get out the car I fold the mirrors in, so usually spot if the windows are open even a little bit! So I am baffled! The fact it was raining at the car was dry on the inside, and nothing was taken. I'm assuming it was done when the car was opened!

I have a 2000 Octy, and had the same problem, but its different than everybody else sugested...

The octy has a very stupid fault, when it rains hard or you jet wash it, water runs down the inside of the door, down the cables and into the window circuit control box, shorts it out and couses the window to do what it wants whenever it wants,

you need to take the door card off prise apart the circuit box, (take off tthe gold colered clips and seperate by slding back, you may have to tug it back) then drian the water out and let it dry in a warm DRY place for the night, put back together and, bobs your uncle, hey presto it works !!!!

Please believe me on this, i have to do it about once every six months !!

I had a 2000 VW golf with the same window box and the same problem !!!

Try it and let me know your outcome, James...

well a month goes by and my windows and boot are opening again. skoda think its a software prob. i think this is bull****. they are on their last warning, and if it happens again legal action will follow as this is in breach of insurance and also dangerous. water and electrics dont mix, and my seat is all electric.

i also heard today that this is a software problem from a very reliable source.all i can really say is that i believe it also has something to do with the wing mirrors, but would not like to say too much about it yet because fear of looking a fool!! will try to get more info.
