Is this reasonable......

Featured Replies

Right, A little bit of a long story but I was hoping to get some opinions on an issue I am having with my car,

When I purchased my car I specced optional leather upholstry for £650. After just a few weeks the drivers seat had gone very baggy and had alot of air bubbles/creases in it. After a few months, the passenger seat started falling apart too, and cracking at the edge. I finally mentioned the issue to my dealer after the drivers seat ripped open on the seat base.

My dealer has been incredibly helpful through all of this issue (Top Rating for WM Couper In St Albans:thumbup:) and arranged for my front seats to be re-trimmed. When I picked the car up they looked fine, but as soon as I got home the drivers seat had gone baggy again. The seats had also been fitten extremely poorly and were scrunched up at the sides.

So I rang Hyundai Customer services to find out how to get this issue resolved (yet again very helpful people), and they rang me everyday with a progress report on the issue:thumbup:. Hyundai don't actually do the seats, a 3rd party company does.

The solution this time was to "Laminate" the leather to bond it to the backing of the seat to prevent bagginess and wear. So I went back to the dealer and had it done again.

This time they are absolutley perfect and are as tight as Anne Robinsons face, but this is where I have another problem:thumbdwn:

The front seats now are so hard and uncomforable they cut the circulation of my legs on long journeys and they offer no support in the corners whatsoever, which is bad because the Getz handes like a drunk hippo.

To make all of this worse, the leather seats are merely zip on covers and are not actually proper trimmed seats at all, If I wanted cheap leather seat covers I could have gone to halfrauds with £50 instead of £650:mad:

Is it reasonable at this point to tell Hyundai I have given them plenty of oppurtunity to fix the problem and I now wish to go back to factory spec cloth seats and door cards and to be refunded my £650?

Long story over, and advice as to whether my claim is reasonable or not is really needed:thumbup:

sounds reasonable to me,but wether they see it like that is another story, good luck:thumbup:

See, I'm thinking whether someone on here could tell you how they expected their seats would perform over time and if their seats came up to expectation (aside from cleaning white ones LOL). Some on here have factory installed and some have seats re-trimmed by a recommended fitting company.

I know from leather settees etc that they do stretch and crinkle, and more or less in different places, clearly according to the quality (meaning where cut from) piece of leather used in that place. However, surely that's part of having a totally natural fabric with all its foibles, otherwise you'd just have Bri-Nylon stretch covers.

That said, if you like leather, were you looking for that "never been sat on" look, or that "it'll become worn in" look which might be part and parcel of what could be expected? I don't have leather car seats, so no good asking me, but I know peeps who wouldn't be seen dead with a brand new (unworn) leather briefcase.

And, that said, leather shouldn't crack and I have a clue what you mean by "air bubbles", unless it was a wafer scraping glued onto the under foam whatever?

Mo rambling

On topic, I do know that if you want to stamp your foot, it is good to be sure you know exactly what you are complaining about. It's good in my mind that you have decided upon a reparation that you would be happy with (fabric seats).

Hopefully more replies will arrive with leather properties/expectations :)

Mo

You will get creases sadly, I've seen it in all my leathered cars.
