Had the same problem with inner door handle from passenger side. Dealer has changed it under warranty in 1 hour. Is your Octy under warranty? If not it's easy to change the whole part and I believe it's not expensive.

although i do have the 3 month warranty that comes standard with a used vehicle, the manufacturers warranty is now expired.

how difficult is it to swap this part?

It's very simple. It goes off just by lifting whole part (box + door) up and towards you. To replace it, I guess you'll need whole part. Shouldn't be expensive.

Hi, I had mine replaced under warranty over a year ago and it has happened again:( so I'll be going back to get it replaced soon! I must admit it makes it look cheap which it probably is!!

Sorry to bump this post back up.

I just fitted the 05 - 07 oem leather gaiter and gearknob to my Fabia elegance becuase the original gearknob was loosing it's chrome finish all around the edges and of course, it was rubber & plastic..

got it for less than £30 on eBay (new, never fitted).. and have also won a new, never fitted, oem leather handbreak cover for £6.51! result.. small leather pack for well under £40!

well, had a look and cant seem to get the lid off without breaking anything, so i have scraped off the chrome and im going to try painting it (well its worth a try)

ill let you all know how it goes

Im another one that had it replaced under warranty, so it looks like the problem is not uncommon
