Changing headlight bulbs

Featured Replies

I know there are tons of threads on this subject but having read loads i'm still a bit stumped. :o:confused:

While at the MPH show at the weekend i bought some Phillips - Xenon Effect - Blue Vision - H7 bulbs as i fancied the blue look light and increased brightness.

There were 4 bulbs in the pack, 2 dipped bulbs and 2 side-light bulbs.

I used the tips on here and changed the dipped beam bulbs no problem, infact the passenger side one that's hampered by the battery was the easiest of the two.

Now, try as i did, the side-light bulbs would not budge, they would turn but they would not come out at all, not even ½ a millimetre.

I gave up and put everything back together and switched them on. They are deffo much brighter but not blue. The side-light bulbs that are still in the pack have blue coloured glass so i'm assuming when these are fitted and on at the same time as the dipped bulbs the combined light coming out will be blueish, is this correct?

So, the question is, how the fook do you get the stubborn little side-light bulbs out?

I'm guessing getting some long-nosed pliers (or similar), grip the plastic bulb holder and try to lever out the old bulbs. Any other ideas will be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

They'll look white! I've just changed the same ones on mine and pleased with the result. The side lights should not need a tool and it could be expensive if something slips. Try wearing gloves to help grip. If you up-end them a squirt of WD40 left for a bit might help the holders loosen their grip on the pins.

The sidelights can be very tight alright, just give them a good "yank"

There's not much room to get a run up to give them a good yank TBH.... lol

I found with mine that twisting and pulling was the only real way to get them out, but it was a complete pita. Pliers might be worth a try.

The light from the blue bulbs (Philips Vision sidelight things?) is very white, rather than blue tinged like the Xenon effect bulbs, but they look nice and clean rather than the yellowy white of the standard fit bulbs.

Double thanks!

Try a flat blade screwdriver and carefully prise them out. They WILL shift. Honest

Thanx for the replies guys, will have round two tomorrow when its light..... weather permitting!

Try a gentle wiggle whilst pulling. Did you turn the bulb holder far enough? you'll feel resistance whilst turning then none at all!

Halfords fit these things while you wait i think.

Woohoo! Round two was a resounding success, infact it was a doddle (i think i must've loosened them on the 1st attempt or forgot to have my weetabix.... lol!) The passenger side came out with a little wiggle and the drivers side just needed teasing out with a pair of crimping pliers.

I am filled with confidence now in this task  so if anyone wants me to do theirs just bring them over

Thanks again for the advice

Just have to wait for it to go dark now to test them, D'oh!

You were right 'viewer' they are white, don't know why they call them 'blue vision' though .

I only bought them coz the man on the stall said they gave off the blue light like the Xenons but having already got over that disappointment and his deceiptful ways, i am pleased with how bright they are but....

.... DOES ANYONE KNOW WHICH BULBS DO GIVE OFF THE BRIGHT BLUE LIGHT??? :(

Halfords fit these things while you wait i think.

but presumably only if you bought the bulbs there in the first place.

Probably right, wonder how much they charge to buy and then fit?
