VW Engine swap...

Featured Replies

OK before anyone critisizes me for biting off more than I can chew Ill explain myself:

Im a mechanical engineering student and my friend who can help me is studying motorsport engineering. We thought it'd help both our studies immensly if we did some car tinkering and after much deliberation we decided an engine transplant might be something fun to do.

So my 1.9d is sadly going (poor thing) and I want to replace it with obviously something a bit bigger and if possible turbo'ed. Now im not completely thick but i do know a bit. Basically my question is where can I find out the engine code on my current engine so I know what to look for to replace it?

Also if anyone has done anything similar then any information would be greatly appreciated :) If it does actually go ahead, ill keep people updated

Thanks in advance

As far as i am aware... the only engines that will fit "straight in" are other felicia engines!!!

Although there has been some bodge transplants... i.e. 1.8t audi engine... Looking at 1000's for that though.

I think you may be able to fit the 1.9TD engine from a similar shape Polo/Ibiza

Or if you look o ebay you may get another 1.9d engine fairly cheap.

The 1.9D (could be the standard 1.9 SDI?) so another VW engine from that same year group should fit.

But I'm a n00b really

Someone put a thread up going from Petrol to Diesel??

I'm assuming the same applies here sorty of.

I'm sure that a 1.9TDI would be a more straightforward swap.

A PD130 in a Felicia could be fun , though it won't be a very easy job whatever you do

I like the idea of a fabia vrs engine in a felly

you will have to customised the engine mountings,

The weight of the motor may be an issue as well, as it may weigh more than a felly lump so you may need some extra support! :P

and as long as the gearbox fits then you should have no problem:cool:

There won't be that much difference in weight between a PD130 and an SDI engine , and that lump was fitted in all sorts of VAG cars so it shouldn't be too hard to track one down.

A non-PD 110 TDI might be another option.

Not much less power , easily remapped , and being an older design it should be more similar to the SDI

i'm starting to like the idea of tuning up a bog standard AEF felicia diesel engine.....

the felicia is a tricky little bugger engine bay wise.

i think, as tom said, do something silly with the standard oil burner. like turbo it!!!

i cant seem to get the idea of superchargers out of my head at the moment :o

Who did that yellow VR6 one? Skoda sent a press photo of it out to the dealers. I was looking through an auction catalogue earlier this year and it was in there, got the boss to put a bid on it but it wasn't enough.

i cant seem to get the idea of superchargers out of my head at the moment :o

what! dont look at me.:sofahide:

The yellow one was Venom Motorsport.

Ive tinkered with a Non PD Felicia for ages....

Ive got the bits but no time.

i thought the vr6 felicia was done by awsome gti

Your right....me bad.....

Did someone mention a hot 1.9 diesel? If you can read Slovakian, then there's a pretty rapid 1.9 TDI PD 110 Leon Cupra here: Seat Leon Cupra 1 and if you can't, just look at the pictures & read the numbers... A Felly eating a Ferrari Modena anyone?

Im seriously considering a Vauxhall 2.0 Red Top or a 8v unit.

Been done many a time in CZ

The VAG V6 fits - if you can believe a 20 second clip on Youtube...

If its the one im thinking then its crap.

It does fit though...

Id much prefer something different though as its been done.

Maybe MR2 floorpan and running gear under a Felicia shell?

Rip the back floorpan out, stick a rover 3.5 V8 in it & drop a belt drive down to a narrowed Jag irs (I wanted to do this to a Honda Acty van when I were a nipper ;))

It might even be possible to 4x4 it from there like the Metro 6r4...
