ASR Button Jammed

Featured Replies

Hi

I went to press the ASR button on Thursday and the button jammed in! (Great VAG build quality). I pressed it a few more times and got it to "pop-out" but it no longer works, and doesn't click.

Now when i start the engine the ASR is off by default (must be held in) but interestingly turns back on after 5 mins.

Anyway, has anyone ever replaced this part themselves? Time consuming? Expensive?

Thanks

Paul

Easy to take it out - you use your finger-tips and or an electrical tape wrapped flat blade screwdriver to prise away the side blanks and all is exposed.

Side blanks?

Do you mean the buttons that do nothing (as i remember there are 4 or 5 buttons but only 2 exist - ASR & heated rear window) ?

Thanks

Mine jammed too! OK, it was the heated rear screen one with me but they're the same...

Using a thin bladed screwdriver and a credit card (old/expired) or similar....

Prise the blank buttons away, out of the dash. They're held in by two plastic clips, one on either side of each button.

The switches themselves have metal "springs" either side of them and are an interference fit into the holes in the dash. Wiggle them whilst pushing them forwards from behind and/or using the screwdriver or similar to lever them out.

Once out but still "loomed", you can see if it works properly.

By blanks I mean the plastic bits that look like the switches but are non-functional..

It may be an idea to spray everything with electronic contact cleaner before you bin the switch - may have gotten a bit of muck in it and jammed.....

Good luck

Bas

I had this happen before but I did not put the stereo back in properly, causing it the foul the switches above. A quick release of the stereo, re-alignment and the switches were back to their normal selves.

Cheers

Des

It is all a bit tight in there.
